Amazing accounts. And I never had any issues, latency to overseas servers is much better than Afrihost or the likes.

I got a quote from Vox Telecom last month for 100 GB for my 4 mbps line.

1) Telkom telephone line rental R199
2) Vox 4 mbps ADSL line rental (inside Telkom’s telephone line) R299
3) Vox 100 GB data R99
TOTAL R597 per month VAT included.

I could not see the Vox ADSL line rental for a 10 mbps line on their website https://www.voxtelecom.co.za/adsl/fat-pipe-home-adsl/#pricing_section



You pay R1050 for 10 mbps 300 GB with Telkom. I don’t think you’ll beat that with another ISP. I checked, I find Telkom the cheapest.

Waylander, I have no idea what you’re trying to say. If I understand you correctly, you say that one can get 100 mbps 400 GB from both Openserve and Vox for R654. That’s not true.

1) Telkom telephone rental R199
2) Vox ADSL line rental is R299 for 4 mbps. How much for 100 mbps?
3) Vox 400 GB data R399

Taking the ADSL line rental as just R299 for 100 mbps, then the TOTAL is already R897. The true TOTAL shall be a lot more than R897. Where do you get R654?

Openserve is Telkom. Openserve is Telkom’s wholesale division.

Hi ichocolate. I cannot get Telkom’s data cost for your 300 GB. But I found their 10 mbps data line rental, month to month (not 24 months contract) R425. Add the telephone line rental of R199 and you get R624.

You pay R1050 per month. R1050 – R624 = R426. You pay R426 a month for 300 GB data? That does not sound right. Have you got some extras? Maybe Netflix or Showmax?

Remember your ADSL service consists of 3 components:

1. POTS line rental (fixed monopoly rate)
2. ADSL line rental (dependent on line speed you chose)
3. Data (dependent of the package and ISP you chose)

Have a look at your Telkom account and fill in the above.

You can't exclude the line rental in the cost. Its compulsory.

I pay:
R144 + R306 (4mb)
R164 - 300gb rollover + uncapped night surfer.

Total - R614.

No, i pay 750 more or less for Telkom phone line rental and the adsl line rental.
Then i pay 299 for my data with Webafrica for 300Gb
so yah, R1050.... are u saying this is okay?


my telkom is 10 meg ADSL line not 4 megs and not 8 megs , so i checked with telkom and those prices i pay for telkom alone are correct.

Guess if i want to save i need to not have internet.

Not sure where u get cheaper 10 meg ADSL , not VDSL and not Fibre, im talking about ADSL
If it were 8 or 10 i dont mine, but from 10 to 4 megs its a bit of a wait if u want a file quickly...
but then again, what, u saving like 200 bucks? and maybe ui can get 200GB for R199 but i dont see how 300 bucks is much of a saving for a slower line speed.

I checked other ISPs, Webafrica and a few or couple have the same pricing model so i dont see a winner here yet.
As for bundling your ADSL line with the ISP thats not a bad idea, but u can experience or expect pain because i have been there before and my line got copletely fked up and it was 2 megs from 6 megs, it was a frustrating painful experience and the ISP nor TELKOM wanted to fix it.
I had to cancel everything and then re-apply for a new line.
