Hi,

So after much hype about oh
1->2Mbps
2->4Mbps
4 ->10Mbps

none of us have really seen these upgrades. What is the situation on this? Are the upgrades still happening or have they been completed? I remember speaking to a telkom agent on the phone (logging a fault who knew) and they said all upgrades would be completed by the end of april ....its June :wtf:
I live in muizenberg and my max speeds are 4Mbps... have been and frankly will always be, and i have also noticed that the 'Telkom Upgrade Checker' has been removed. (yes you get the adsl line checker, im talking about the upgrade checker.)

Also, what are the line speeds for Constantia area? near boundary rd (southern subs)?

Oh and any news on when our dark fibre will go live?

I'm pretty sure this is all done, I think there are a few areas still on the old speeds but not many.

The 4Mbps -> 10Mbps upgrades however are tricky because some of the older UMCs they still use only support up to 4Mbit but the 1Mbit and 2Mbit upgrades are all done as far as I'm aware. Just make sure that if you can only get 4Mbit that you are being charged for the 4Mbit product.

Jip, if one is still seemingly stuck on the old speed the probability is quite high that your exchange/line simply cannot go past the 4mbps barrier. Would suggest you call up telkom, Deago999, and get them to check what shows as the maximum speed profile for your line. If 4mbps is the max available it is time to downgrade the account as suggested. At work we can go max 6mbps but that was unstable with certain ISP accounts so we put in the request this week to downgrade from the 10mbps package to the 4mbps one. Works out a bit cheaper.

Hi, I'm Peter and I live in Plumstead above the railway line. 240 meters from Boundary and 300 meters from Doodfrift Road. here's a post that I've just made. I pay for 4 MB/sec and get less than 3! Maybe we can combine our efforts and see if that can make a difference . . . .

I'm currently with WebAfrica and would not change to another ISP for all the tea in China. And i, can DRINK tea . . .

Having said that i recently upgraded from a 2Mb/sec line to a 4Mb/sec line and simultaneous;y from 40Gigs anytime PLUS 80 Gigs midnight to 6am capped package to 4 Mb/sec uncapped. I should add that WA manage my ADSL line and always have, from day 1 nine years ago

From 01 Feb I'm going back to my capped package but I'm keeping my speedier (?) ADSL line. WebAfrica are the most transparent, service-oriented bunch of geezers and gals that I've ever had the pleasure to deal with. BUT . . . here's the rub;

As we know, Telkom owns and handles the infrastructure At WA's site my line "synchs at a perfect 4 Mb/sec" and they have no reason to try to mislead me. I'm tech-savvy enough to understand attenuation issues and the like BUT! Using EVERY speed test that I can find, on this forum and elsewhere, I achieve an average of the results here - http://speedtest.ookla.com/result/2810309489.png. which are far from satisfactory. Telkom tell me that the line to my point in my exchange (Wynberg, Cape Tow) can handle up to 10 Mb/sec with ease. Why then, do I get excuses re "losses through copper" and other such bunkum.

If ANYONE can throw light on this subject and satisfactorily explain why I'm receiving a service if less than 2/3 rds of what I'm paying for please let me know.

Thanks and regards,
The Celt58

What is your router currently syncing at? Could you also tell us the attenuation and SNR, you saying you know doesn't tell us anything about it.
