I am currently getting bad packets on the PPPoE Connection.
Also its only on RX never on TX.

Has anyone seen this before? It just counts up slowly and increases as you download data.

Also I dunno if this has any bearing but these are my line stats

UPSTREAM DOWNSTREAM
Speed 384 Kbps 640Kbps
Output Pwr 21 dBm 0 dBm
S/N Ratio 38.5db 17 dB
Attenuation 19.5 dB 8.5 dB

Are these goods stats? Anything look unusual?

Thanks

Beelzs.

Yeah I am.

It's weird though as bad packets only occur on the DownStream.
Never on the upstream.

Also I don't have any packet loss or anything like that just bad packets.
I also thought it may possibly be an MRU setting but have tried diffrent settings with no luck.

Next thing I'm going to try is re-writing my house but I dunno if that will fix anything cause I would have thought if it was a wiring issue you'd get bad packets on the upstream aswell.

Thanks

By bad packets.. you mean CRC errors or error seconds right?

Also does your connection drop often?

I had the same problem and was at first told that anything less than 5 errors a second was not of any concern to telkom and it was normal.. Yes.. I did tell the tech to shove his BS where the sun does not shine.

After 12 months and constant complaining, I finally got a special services manager out to check my line. It ended up being faulty connections on the telkom poles and exchanges where there was rust on the lines due to them being very old. They brought that ADSL tester of theirs and when they plugged it in, I asked how they would find something this time when for over 30 call outs none of the other techs could find a problem. I was told that the tester the special services guys have are different to the others that the normal techs have.. and well he sat back, told the normal tech to go to a pole 300 meters from my house.. Found a problem. Tech returned told him to go 432 meters from my house.. Found a problem. It was detecting irrregular voltage changes which where caused by the rust.. Since then.. 15 errors in 3 months

All I can advise you is keep a log of every fault you report and all the report numbers, If they ask you to check your line for 24 hours.. do it for 3 days instead and refuse to close the call until its fixed. If they close the call on their own (which they do) Report all the other fault reference numbers since they dont seem to check your call history. After about 14 days.. It should be passed on to the Special service guys.. If it is the same problem I had.. they will fix it... and good luck!

Thanks for the reply's.

I'm not using the marconi router i'm using a billion 7402.

I've reported it to telkom and they told me they could do nothing as my connection never drops(and it never does only at the 24hr resets) They said that as soon as my connection starts dropping they can send someone out.
What i get is bad packets on the rx interface which increases when I download. In a 24hr period i get +- 1100 bad packets depending on how much i download.its like 100 or so in a hr if i do heavy downloading.

I will take your advice Kalvaer and i'll bug them with written records till they send someone out to fix it all.

Regards
Beelzs
