If you're into a lot of gaming you'll probably need more than 3GiB per month so make sure you get a "flexi-cap" account at TelkomSA or if you're connecting to local servers for gaming a cheap local only account from WebAfrica will also do. (R75 for 3GiB)

I have to limit my gaming in order to keep my usage below 3GiB per month. (~100MB/night)

Another good idea would be to go for an openweb account. There you can get your allocated bandwidth plus extra local only gigs. :)

eg. 3gig cap + 30gig local

It should be very suitable for gaming, only thing is international is slightly slower ;)

OpenWeb accounts are only useful if you're connecting to local game servers.
Once you start playing stuff like WoW, Eve Online, Runescape, etc. you're basically sitting with an expensive hard capped 3GiB account.
Oh but at least you can download 30 GiB of e-mail for the rest of the month. :D

Well...at the moment i've only got a 384k line, but at the end of the week Telkom are upgrading me to 512k.

Currently my speed is just below 384k ;)

so if i understand correctly the 3 gig is for international use and local but once it is finnished you can carry one with 30gig local?

does that include DLing local torrents local ftp's etc? and for gaming?

yes Nokkie it includes that, however Peppercorn, I still think my idea is good, unless you dont need international access.

ok but now the other question? When do you know if you use your 3gig cap and 30gig cap together? like for when you wan't to play games and DLs stuff you use the 30gig and for work 3gig. Is something like that possible?

That would be correct, only thing is you have to be careful with gaming, if you're on local only, applications such as steam have to connect internationally before you can join a local server....which sucks :(

Yes, you get a 3gig standard cap and 30gigs local after cap. You can download all LOCAL torrents and well as ftp's after cap, not international.

You also get a variety of Bandwidth offers such as 1gig + 10gig local
5gig+ 30gig local
etc.

check out http://www.openweb.co.za/adsl for more info
or speak to Mr. BEEP
