A router is a device that can direct network traffic to (typically) the traffic's destination.
Be wary of purchasing a "Broadband router". The term "Broadband router" does not mean it includes a modem, it means that a modem can be connected to it and the router can establish the connection through the modem. If you want to purchase an "all-in-one" look for a router that includes a modem.
