I am using a Netgear DG814 ADSL router for my ADSL connection. The unit is being used around the world. I recently loss connection (My router would not sync). I then took my router in to the suppliers and they put it on their adsl line and the router synced within 1 min. I then returned to my office and logged a call with Telkom. They came out and tested the line with one of their own adsl modem, and it worked first time. This left me with a problem, the unit works but not on my line, I finally confinced telkom to change my port at the DSLAM. The moment they changed it, my router synced and I could get back to normal operation. I asked Telkom what the problem might be, but they could not answer me. They are going to look into the problem (like they really will).

So if you can not sync get your port changed at the DSLAM

Just make sure that the filter is not inbetween your wall socket and your modem/router

That is the actual port at the exchange where your line is connected to

Darkhelmet agreed

When I ordered my adsl "service" Telkom charged me for TWO filters,
of course only ONE is needed - wall box to normal telephone line.

Maybe some installations have the filter between the wall and modem/router ??

Hmm, there should never be a filter between the wall (exchange) and the modem. (Telkom have just scored another R45 bucks efg) The purpose of the filter is to get rid of the high frequency ADSL signals that would make it very anoying to use the 'phone and breaking the fax machines signalling.

Experiment and plug your phone directly into the wall without the filter and listen to the noise!

Hi

We are having the same problem in Cape Town with our unit. Do you have a contact name of whom you spoke to in Telkom that helped you. I am desperate for them to change our DSLAM. if not perhaps even a reference no i can refer to to help back up my problem

Thanks[8D]
