I reside in this KZN suburb and although most information is by word of mouth from other residents, this is my abridged report.

We had a 384Kb down/128Kb up ADSL line until December 2012 when it was upgraded to a 1024Mb down/512 up.
Telkom changed us to a new exchange - much closer they said in December 2012/January 2013.
In Google Earth I found it to be about 1km as the crow flies.

Then the problems started - I would loose service, the line would go down and the phone also stopped working.
Telkom said they would fix it. The phone was fixed in March. The ADSL was to be fixed in April, then it became June, August and now it is supposed to be fixed in December.

I have logged so many faults I have lost count. I will consolidate my records and also my HelloPeter response too and post them. The strange thing is that when I tested the latency 2 days ago it was 15msec with 910Kb down and 420Kb up - apparently acceptable for a 1024Kb/512Kb.

About 3 weeks ago my NetGear DG834 ADSL router packed up after 7 years service. So I bought the Telkom branded NetGear DG2200mv2 ADSL2+/3G fallover modem. This modem dropped my ADSL line every 20 minutes and every 2 hours while using the 3G connection. I swapped this for a D-Link 2750u which has been much better on my ADSL line. It drops the line about 2 times per day on the ADSL connection and not at all on the 3G connection.

A conversation with MWeb my service provider indicated my line was cabable of 3.5Mb but Telkom says my line does not support ADSL at all and puts my local loop at 5km with a line attenuation of 60dB down and 40dB up.

It is my intention to post all my technical details I have tested in time too

I've been waiting since December (9 months) for Telkom to install a line at Urban Park (meridian drive).
Now that they seem to be almost ready... I am moving two blocks down to Seasons Court :crying:
I hope it's not another 9 months!!!
