yeah please post any updates you have with Telkom/Amobia in this thread...lets keep each informed.

I have NOT received any sms from Telkom...but then no one has phoned me, mailed me, nothing...so I'm not really surprised :/

As I said earlier, the latest conversation I had from a Telkom person this morning assured me that he will be visiting our area tomorrow. So I'm not sending in my Amobia application just yet...I need FINAL confirmation that the cables will not be replaced. The reason for this is that I went through THE EXACT same thing 2 months ago where Telkom's initial and repeated response was that the cables will not be replaced. I didn't accept this and took them on...eventually spoke to the right people and the lines were replaced just days after. This was a 4 week fight by the way.

With regards to the Amobia connection...please do and post some speedtests please if you don't mind, local & international (specifically EU)

I did a Google search and Vanilla.co.za looks good. More expensive though.
Btw, I will also not give up. This is the first time that my line went down! Bloody Telkom fools.

Vanilla.co.za charges nearly R4k for an install. Snowball and nexus -net are almost as much. At least Amobia is only R1k.

I'm more than happy to pay R999 for a 4Mbps unshaped service with a FUP of 400GB. As far as I understand it, you have to sign a 24month contract...and that's something I'm not willing to do

the contract is probably only because they need to install equipment at your place...still, I don't like contracts...at all!!

the "unshaped" bit is very attractive tho :D

OK I'm lost a little, are you saying Amobia requires you to sign a contract? I see no mention of that on their site.

Ah ok, I'm with you again. :)

I'm also not a fan of the contract idea. I just recently broke free of the cellphone upgrade cycle, prepaid FTW!
