:D

Vodacom owns Neotel

Telkom USED to own 50% in Vodacom, but sold that stake a couple years ago.

Oh, I was referring to Vodacom's purchase of Neotel. Still awaiting Competition Commission approval if I'm not mistaken.

I didn't get a specific date...but I was told sometime next week.

ALSO, they are gonna replace the current ****ty manhole covers with proper ones, and I was also told that soon (beginning of next year sometime) we should be able to go VDSL.

happy days

**** YES! I hope you're not joking. I'll have to cancel my amobia ASAP. I've already paid for the installation and router though.
Slowhands, you are the MAN. I owe you a case of beer :D

no jokes...spoke to the guy just 30 minutes ago.

If you want to give him a ring to confirm that your own street will also be reconnected, please pm me for his contact details. This guy is currently my best friend so I'm not going to advertise his name and number here on the open forums.

I hope they will be connecting all the streets and not just certain ones

Congrats on never giving up and holding out. And happy days for you folks getting VDSL in the near future. Been inquiring the past 6 months about VDSL in Protea Heights and it won't be installed in the foreseeable future.

Hope they sort you guys out quick, it's been a nightmare for ya'll.

It seems obvious what you need to do in order to hasten the arrival of VDSL...........

I don't want to be bugging your personal friend... not very cool. But if you do chat to him again, tell him some random guy in Shiraz Str is now unsure whether or not to go ahead with a wireless setup. ;-)

I'm not really 100% sure either. I don't really want to bug the guy, but I need to know whether I should cancel Amobia and ask for my R2200 back.

In the end of the day I'm sure we all will be connected again....I hope :)

guys, it's up to you really.

I wasn't prepared to give up fighting and so yet again my efforts yielded positive results...I'm not sure we'll be this lucky everytime/again. As I really understand your frustrations with this situation (I'm in the same boat) I don't mind giving you the guys contact details...all I ask is don't advertise his details online, and if you do give him a ring, be courteous. He is after all going the extra mile to help us out.

This guy is based in the southern suburbs and was willing to drive out all the way to our area to come do a personal inspection...most telkom people won't even take your call...

well...that's what I was told (beginning next year)...the actual date might be a bit later...you know how these things go.

Things to think about tho with regards to VDSL...they already put in a new fat pipe into our area, there's already a new box put up (not sure what's inside tho)...

in the meantime, I'm just SO THANKFUL that my 4mbps ADSL will be active again soon.

I'm definitely also very thankful that we are getting our ADSL lines back. I just hope this actually goes through and this guy does not get overruled by someone higher up
