I'll give it till Next week Friday......... If nothing happens.... Amobia it will be ( also still getting the attendance sms from Telkom every evening)

I had Amobia here yesterday to come look at the line of sight... this big Nigerian dude stood in my backyard and said "yip, you are good to go.. there are two towers on that hill over there" and then he left lol

We can only wait and see...

@Slowhands, I live about 4-5 houses from you in Burgundy street.. Telkom's contractor replaced the manhole cover on my lawn in front of the house with a new square one with THICK concrete around it (This was about 12 days ago..)

That same evening the thieves were out and about in the street in fact opposite your neigbour (policeman) and opened their round manhole and hack sawed the thick cable. Within two minutes, two of SJC security's cars were driving around looking for the guys.

Too late, the thieves ran into the field towards Corrobrick. I picked up the thick roll of Telkom cable and informed the police that arrived that I'll keep it in my garage, rather than the thieves coming back for the loot.

Only 2-3 of these manhole covers (with the built-in locks) were replaced.. The rest that can be lifted open by anyone are still around.

well to be fair that's how LOS (line of sight) works. if you can physically see the building/hill (where you have a highsite) from the place you're planning on putting up equipment, then you're good to go.

These guys use mostly 5ghz range, which is nice for distance...so as long as there's no hills/trees/buildings in the way it should work. The only thing then is to put up the equipment, align, and figure out the best frequency to use.

Across from my house in Baronne street, they also replaced the round manhole cover with a thick square concrete one. They also broke into that and cut something from it (long shaped cone thingy with cables connecting to it).... Telkom better put in measures to protect it from happening again, as they will surely try again after the cables has been replaced..

damn...I thought I could hide :D

anyways...I have been told that they would put in more of those thick covers...

I seriously hope this is now the end of this

if it happens again I'm not going through all this fighting and weeks without connection again...

Ok Guys,

Have a quick update regarding our "Situation". They finished the Quantity survey today with regards to how much and what was stolen (I have the lengths and thickness if you want). Everything should be up and running by next Friday. This is a little more difficult to replace due to some concrete boxes that was damaged in the theft process.

Yeah, I also stream almost everything. Issue with me is the gaming. Apparently I have to phone them eveytime I play a new game (once off phonecall for that particular game) and they will unblock those ports. issue is, I play the new Call of Duty a bit and as far as I understand it, it uses the p2p protocol.
I'm just glad I don't have to go through all of that hassle. I'm waiting patiently for our copper cables to get fixed :D

At least Telkom did generate credit for the time the line has been dead. I just got my billing email, and I see my account is in credit.
