Update:

just got a callback from my guy...he spoke to the guy who will be doing the job/getting the contractors...they are currently still waiting for the new manhole covers to arrive, and the current estimate for the job to begin is this Friday/next Monday.

It makes sense to wait for the new manhole covers to get here before laying the new cables...otherwise it will just get stolen again.

guess we have to wait just a little bit longer

Cool, thanks SlowHands

I'm still worried about the amount of manhole covers that they require. Where exactly did they steal the cables, in Burgandy street? Are they only going to replace the manhole covers in the area where the cables were stolen?

lets hope not.

I was told "again" today that we might have VDSL early next year...that's why that new box was put up in our area (Kruin St)

I don't understand why some people would think that Amoebia is an obtion! What have happened to our values? I know that we dont have alternatives. You wont be a able to stream, p2p, watch videos, gaming will suck, ect! Only light browsing! And their packages are a joke! A big fat joke like R49 per gig!
Bitco.co.za confirmed that they are busy building their Cape Town network that will incl Brackenfell. Initiation fee is more, but your overall quality is a lot better. And its uncapped with a very good fup. Please send an email to them. The more people who request their service, the quicker they will be here. Xxx :)

Um.... maybe because of the number of satisfied customers they seem to have all over MyBB?

I'll report back once I'm up and running for anyone who's interested.

Their streaming is amazing from what I have heard... and they gladly unlock "p2p ports" for gaming on request

that's why I am getting uncapped.

I will be happy when DSL is back up, but for now I need to work from home and also missing out on a lot of streaming.

I'm just glad to see that they are actually busy with the repairs. Let's hope all goes well. I'm going to be pissed if I don't have internet by the end of the month

Just drove past the shiny new MSAN in Kruin Str & there was a tech furiously busy patching things in the old blue & green box next to it. Holding thumbs.

actually, I was told that the new white box in Kruin is an ISAM, not an MSAN...but...I don't really know what the difference is...

I might be mistaken, but AFAIK "MSAN" is the generic term for the type of equipment that provides access via multiple type of connection, i.e. xDSL, ISDN, Fibre, etc.

"ISAM" is a particular brand/model that they make use of.

So the relationship between the 2 words is similar to the relationship between "Router" and "Cisco".
