Get away from Afrihost! Not even their website is working tonight! I posted a speedtest earlier this week, I can repost, but oi, it takes so long for me to find the buttons to do an upload! My speed is consistent 24h a day on Webafrica. They have great capped offerings.

I tried a speedtest with a WebAfrica test account but got the same results as with Afrihost/CrystalWeb...I'm beginning to actually believe the problem is somewhere with my line...but Afrihost isn't doing anything to help. All they say everyday is..."really sorry about that, could you post another tracert...etc"

Maybe WebAfrica will be more helpful when it comes to fixing problems...

Since last week somewhere my 4 meg line attenuation dropped from 54 db to 12 db. I'm trying to get this sorted out. I live in Sauvignon street.

The plot sickens...I'm thinking more and more that this issue (of mine at least) isn't Afrihost related...but somewhere last week someone messed up at our exchange...

I'm assuming my numbers are units of 0.1dB, in which case mine still look OK, FWIW.

Hey cueball that's not bad stats that...why not upgrade to vdsl?

so it looks like my problem has been finally fixed...problem is though I'm not sure if "someone" fixed the problem, or if it was because I bought a decent router (ASUS DSL-AC68U) and that did the job...regardless, since the moment I plugged in this badboy my pings/speeds has been what it was in the beginning.

and my router shows I CAN do 40mbps...so now just to get Telkom to switch me...will have to get Charl on this methinks

I'm not a particularly heavy user. 2M is good enough for streaming just about everything I would want to, and general surfing isn't particularly dependent on mega bandwidth.

Hey all,

I'm experiencing slower than usual speeds today. Checked my router...line speed dropped from 40Mbps to 36Mbps. Speedtest is sporadic..sometimes only giving me a result of 19Mbps and other times 5Mbps. Started noticing this today. i have tried different ISP's with the exact same result.
Are you guys also experiencing issues? This must be the exchange/MSAN giving issues

I'm only on 2M ADSL so perhaps not a useful comparison, but FWIW, getting around 1.7M down on speedtest, same as usual.

Thnx for the response cueball. Something definitely up with my line. The line just dropped and and had to restart the router. Getting 1.29Mbps download on a 40Mbps line :(

My line is also slower! Today its again slow! Very slow! I reported the problem on Twitter. They are a lot faster to respond than the Facebook team.

Edit: my line this morning was max 3mbs. After Telkom did a port reset, my speed improved to 23mbs. Normally I will get 34mbs on my 40 vdsl line.

hey...mmm I haven't checked in here in ages. I've only seen random speed drops...almost never and usually recovers to full speed again very quickly. As far as my experience goes it's just about full speed all of the time.

Aaaaaaaand cables stolen again. Shiraz street around #26 or so.

Hmm not good. I'm in Burgundy street (runs into Shiraz street). My connection still fine.
Actually they haven't stolen ours since they filled the holes with cement and put those metal poles up.

Yeah, seems like there were two that just happened to have been overlooked last time they filled them up. Hopefully won't take too terribly long to replace considering its a pretty short piece.
