well I can now actually access the forums...earlier I couldn't even load a page...
I'm doing tracert every now and then to see when it improves...sadly it hasn't yet...

My issues started since last Sunday when my line started dropping every 10-15 minutes. Telkom recreated my port a couple of times which did the trick, but only till next morning. Something seriously wrong with our exchange by the looks of my tracert results..

randomhero could you also post a tracert from your side?

34ms and 3.39 MB on my 4MB Uncapped here in Sonkring.

But it was worse before I rebooted the router, but might have been the PS4 downloading stuff.

Well, mine is a little bit slower than usual, but not nearly as bad as some of you:

Apparently too many geeks, that's why the internet is so slow.

I'm just wondering about the okes who say they have VDSL and wondering if the Coverage Map shows they have it or if they got a special offer...because mine says 4MB only even though the line stats say 20MB easily.

The map is outdated and sometimes just wrong. Even the ADSL checker is broken. Says no ADSL available on all of the half dozen numbers I tried, most if which definitely have ADSL.

Guys, who's interested? If we can get enough sign ups in our area, we all can have fiber shortly!

We then asked ourselves “then what?” Do we simply leave it at that and stop innovating? No.

XtremeTTH is not a single product, but rather a life-cycle of upgrades to end users. It’s permanent value that continues to redefine the benchmark of South African connectivity. It involves 3 phases of deployment to end users with remarkable results. Let’s look at these phases in more detail below.

Phase 1 (upgrade copper infrastructure to 21st century technology)
Speeds upgraded to: Up to 100Mb/s with future upgrades planned up to 300Mb/s where feasible
Requirements: 40-50 people in a 5 square kilometre area to sign up with Crystal Web. Once they are DSL customers, we invest in the upgrade of that area. There is nothing else required on your part.

Phase 2 (full suburb/community/area FTTH deployment)
Speeds upgraded to: Up to 1Gb/s
Requirements: to be communicated to each deployment site individually

Phase 3 (this one we are keeping under wraps for the time being and will be announced later, as the technology is not ready for commercial roll-out just yet but certainly forms part of our XtremeTTH plans)

Why would we want to do this?
Quite simply, it is more cost effective for us to deploy this for you at significant speeds than it is to provide you with data over copper. It also means that we “own” the underlying network supporting you, so both support and turnaround times can be improved. In addition, it means complete remote management and support of your devices on-site with auto-provisioning and the elimination of often insecure usernames and passwords that as we recently discovered the hard way, often not even you can control when multiple parties are involved in provisioning and management of internet and associated services.

On to the bits you really want to know: what does the service cost per month?
We have multiple speed options available, and all are symmetric (your upload and download are the same speed). Below is the pricing for each (total cost incl line and data – there are no other monthly costs to you and no voice line required):

4Mb/s: R699
20Mb/s: R899
50Mb/s: R999
100Mb/s: R1499

Is this open access?
Yes, amazingly it is. This model is available to all other ISPs who wish to offer their internet, voice, and video services over the network. Your initial deployment will be over Crystal Web, and we will be your ISP, but if at a later stage you wanted to switch you would be able to do so with any other ISP who has connected to the network.

How quickly can you do this?
Realistic project timelines range from 6 weeks to 3 months after critical mass is achieved to first customers going live, depending on the build process and municipalities involved.

How do I sign up?
This benefit is exclusively available to Crystal Web customers. You must be a customer to benefit from this. We will be updating our website next week to include all of the necessary details and information. In short though, there’s nothing that you really need to do other than to champion the cause to your local community. Most current deployments often require thousands of people to sign before feasibility begins. We simply say that once 40 people in a particular density target have signed up with us over DSL, we’ll upgrade feasible sites to XtremeTTH. Customer champions receive their internet for free, gratis, no charge at all – not for line; not for data; not for installation.
