Thanks for the Info MightyQuin - I saw this morning that they are launching new product range and i'm more than happy to pay R700 a month for wireless uncapped. Hopefully they allow P2P

I live around the corner from you guys, but luckily my lines haven't been stolen yet.

THEY WILL REPLACE THE CABLES. They can replace it with fibre. Problem solved. We all are very happy!

were you being sarcastic or is this for real? did someone phone you?

And replacing the cables with fibre! We wish! The only feedback i received was a sms from Telcrap to say that I will get a rebate on my account. How lovely.

honestly...if it's THAT easy to repeatedly steal cables over and over in the same area, then they have themselves to blame.

Put a couple of intelligent people in a room to come up with ideas on how to counter all these thefts, then put those new ideas to the test...for example if they have a new type of lid that is supposedly tamper-proof, install them in these "so-called" high theft areas.

I actually thought about something this morning on my way to work...why don't they just seal the manhole with a thick layer of concrete? If/when they need to do maintenance they can cut through the concrete. I'm pretty sure building a nice thick block of concrete around an access point can't be too expensive? Not sure if the thieves will bother trying to cut through a meter of concrete at 3am...if that doesn't wake up the neighbors nothing will.

^^ wadaya think?

...just had a VERY heated argument with "name and number previously mentioned" and the guy just flatout (and rudely) told me Telkom will NOT replace the lines, the area will get W-CDMA.

My blood is boiling at this stage...

WTF are we supposed to do with W-CDMA. They can stick that where the sun don't shine

just drove to my nearest Telkom Direct shop to try and get information on who to contact...lady there behind the counter just told me that if cables are stolen there's nothing we can do about it...if we don't like it (or the alternatives like W-CDMA/LTE) we can go to the competition. I couldn't believe what I was hearing...she's saying that...and just behind her on the wall is a poster for ADSL with the words "Better broadband isn't just nice, it's ESSENTIAL"...the same company that says a service is essential refuses to provide it.

feel so hopeless

Guys....... I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, as I'm just as frustrated about the whole situation.. On NeoTell's site for the Normandie/Protea Village area, none of the below mentioned is covered!!!!! So the alternatives are getting pretty slim very fast... I had Iburst about a year back, and its not good at all. I had to purchase an external Arial to get a usable connection.

ECC systems was the other option for me, but apparently they don't allow P2P.......

Is that map up to date? Didn't they dig up nearly ALL the roads in Protea Heights last year? I knbow Vergenoegd was one of the streets. Maybe we can pettion Neotel to put up a wireless station connected to nearest fibre node? Lots of business for them. I'll contact them and request a feasibility on a few addresses in that area.

That will be awesome. Thanks! Ask them about Cabernet street if you can. It's the last/lowest street in the area. If that street has coverage, surely the whole area will

My Parents stay in Protea Heights and their drive way was dug up by NeoTell peoeple about 3-4 years ago. Nothing on our side yet (Normandie/Protea village)
