I want to make use of VPN to my server at the office. We are running ADSL at the office and Small business server 2003 with no ISA server. I have configured my ADSL router in PAT with port 1723. I can get as far as verifying user name and password and no further. Is there any other mappings or ports that I need to configure my router with? In the system event log of the server I get a warning: remote connection dropped because authentication did not complete in the required time frame. It is as if the server is not able to get back to me with the authentication process.

Please HELP, I am not sure if this is a router problem or the server firewall

Checks router...

Port 1723 is the right one. I can't think of anything else to suggest

as far as I know, for a PPTP tunnel, u will need TCP 1723 open as well as allowing the GRE protocol.

here is quite a nice intro to PPTP:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/default.asp?url=/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/intwork/inbe_vpn_naxe.asp

sorry about the long URL.

Let me know if u need any other help.
