Hey guys..
I've got a bit of a problem, i want to buy a flat but the location has no telephone line, it only uses wifi telephones..
I'm a serious gamer and don't want to play with a 100ping on servers.

1st: Is ADSL the fastest line you can get, how does wifi or 3G compare to ADSL?

2nd: Is telkom thinking about running telephone lines through the powerlines?(i heard this from a shaky friend) :)

Can anyone help?

Yea, tricky one, teklom are olbiged to install a line for you, but their standard operating procedure with blocks of residences is to install one "box" for the entire block. They may be allowed to use the "no box has been installed" excuse at this set of flats.

But, technically, wireless (wi-fi) is not going to add more than 10 ms to your lag. Usually, these wireless operators bugger the lag up in the rest of the network, and not on the wireless part of the connection.

But, from experience, you're not in a good position, unless you can jump onto somebody else's adsl line ... say somebody running a wireless router close to the block of flats.

The telephone through power lines thing will only happen on the long-haul, not on the "into the house" part of the connection, because the equipment that does the extraction of data from the power lines is too expensive.

Thanks alot stoke, so i'll have to settle for a crap lag or look for another flat.. :(
Thanks for all the trouble, let me go check for some new adds about flats.. :)!
