If you had an option to choose between ADSL an a WISP which one would you choose and why?

ADSL every time.
Had a WISP for some time, and had problems continuously.
If the lightning had not hit their high-sights, they had power loss problems.

Since moving back to Telkom ADSL the only time we had a break in service was when the telephone lines were stolen.
Lines were replaced within 3 days.

ADSL yes,

BUT BIG BUT HERE:

Reputable WISPS with their own backbones etc. can go long ways in not only delivering internet services, but more. WISPS reselling ADSL over wireless, big no.

As my WISP is Amobia and I get 4Mb down *and* up, which has opened the door to me up and fetching stuff straight from my office server as-and-when, I won't go near anyone's ADSL until that A is a WHOLE lot less a than it is now. And even then only maybe, my internet feed and network cabinet is now effectively lightning-safe, as compared with the surge that can come down the line and fry the modem/router. As for the high site going down: yes, that happened to me recently. As I happened to be at the office at the time, I called it in straight away and not only didn't get treated like an idiot (they must have the best tech support line I have ever met) but got it confirmed ...and my connection temporarily transferred to an alternate site for the duration.

Assume the usual "subject to" and YMMV, but that's where I stand (and try to get clients of mine where possible/relevant).

ADSL any day of the week when talking last mile if the provider has poor back-haul or is heavily shaped or throttled then no matter how good your link is it wont matter.

ADSL will give you better reliability especially during bad weather, more stable and better latency and speeds over most wisps.

Mweb and Amobia are very close when it comes to broadband and telephony services. Amobia also acts as Mweb's wireless operator.

I always default to ADSL. Tried 3G, tried WISP (albeit not for long).

Basically just confirming earlier statements - speed and reliability are just better. BUT it can happen that you are one of "those" areas which have an exchange that was last given attention in the dark ages, which could very well mean congestion.
