Hi Guys
I'm trying to connect my ADSL through a 2nd nic in my mail server, so i can use a descent firewall on that machine. I managed to configure the mail server accordingly, and can connect to the internet, but cannot connect from the other machines on the network to use the 2nd nic.... or should it be done that way. Please advise.

Thanks

What OS are you using?

You haven't given any details, so my recommendation in turn will not be detailed; you need to do NAT on your mail server from your local network out over the ADSL interface. How you do this exactly will depend on your OS / software / etc., it'll probably be called "IP Masquerading" or something to that effect.

For example, Linux with kernel 2.4.x or 2.6.x will have an iptables line like:
Code:
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE
(assuming ppp0 is the interface for your PPPoE connection)

What do you want the other machines to use the 2nd nic for ? Assuming you're using two sets of private ip addresses, you will have to set up a rule to do ip forwarding from one to the other, otherwise the two sets of ip's don't talk to each other.

However, it is difficult to give any real advice without more details of what you're wanting to do, what your hardware setup is and the OS that you are using.

If you are using Windows 2000 server then just setup NAT routing under remote access and routing, rem to have only one defualt gateway on your NIC that is connected to your modem. Default gateway should be IP address of router/modem.

Some times also helps to add DNS.
