GWM 2.0 VGT claims 8.3L/100km - I get 8.1L/100km when I drive normally. But my range per tank has been from 7.9L - 9.3L/100km

I would hazard a guess, this is the issue. The run is too short.

It certainly is one of the major issues.

7 km and the engine hardly has enough time to reach normal operating temperature - furthermore, if it is stop start on the way, that is even worse, and it is unlikely that a diesel would make much difference with conditions like that.

It could also just be the trip computer averaging out your total consumption? When i replaced my battery, my consumption meter reset and i got a chance to get a real idea of my driving style. The first week it shot to 15+ l/100km. This is due to pull aways, not that I pull away hard, but because 1st gear uses so much fuel/the car trying to get away from standstill. After a couple of weeks the figure eventually drops the more distance you put on the clock at your usual speed. That being said, I think your 7km commute is very short and is therefore a major factor in your case.

I'm now on 6.8 l/100km, it was 6.7 but thanks to load shedding it's gone back up. This is with my 1.4 RunX.

What you guys are saying makes sense, and I'll also give it some more time. 7km to work, stop/go in peak traffic while the engine is cold with the aircon on are all factors that contribute to poor fuel consumption. It does make me feel better about my right foot or driving style since I'm sure that's not where the biggest problem lies..
