Hello all,
After recently having our first baby my wife and I would like to move to the country and start a guesthouse/dog boarding business.
I am a graphic designer and web developer she is a yoga teacher.
We are thinking of finding a farm/lodge in the Free State and creating a pet friendly guesthouse, supplemented by the dog boarding, my web work and yoga/spiritual retreats we may run. I have existing clients but nothing to shout about. Probably around R15k per month which would drop off I imagine when Im not in JHB to pitch and sell.
I would love to hear anyone's feedback and experience on such an endeavour in SA and the Free State particularly.
Are we mad to even think it is possible financially? Any ideas on number of nights we can expect guests? Websites we can do further research?
We have around R650k savings, and the potential to work in the US for big $$$ anytime we may need to supplement income....but we love SA and dont really wish to travel to the US that much, especially with a baby.
We reckon we may have a competitive advantage with the web skills and SEO required for the lodging, and the yoga aspect. We love dogs and have found great dog friendly boardings difficult previously so would like to make a great place for dogs and their owners. The ones we have stayed in have always been at full capacity whenever we have been.
Really appreciate your responses!
