Hi guys

Should I wait for Neotel to enter the market or signup for ADSL with Telkom, i haven't move the ADSL route is I want to see what Neotel offers, I am getting very impatient now,my telkom ADSL line is no longer fun after I've experienced ADSL and 3G

What wud u guys advise

Thx :)

I'm not entirely certain but, Neotel isn't going to be available to the general public for some time, and even then it will only start in major areas and work it's way into more remote areas, so depending on where you are you might have to wait years.

Since you're running out of patients, if you can afford it and want it then go get it, then one day when Neotel can provide you with a service you can check it out.

Neotel won't be offering ADSL (yet) afaik, but WiMax/CDMA2000 instead. Telkom's ADSL will be superior to this, but Neotels pricing may be good, so best to wait and see.

However I don't know if you'd regret just getting an ADSL line now, if you plan on gaming then don't bother waiting.

My advice, don't wait. If you need a connection now just sign up for one of the do packages and take a self install and get a free modem. If Neotel ever decides to grace us with their presence then you can consider them.

If you can still get the free Zyxel IAD P2602 WiFi router with a self-install from Telkom without a 2-year contract just go ahead and order a Do Broadband bundle from Telkom. This router comes with Voip capabilities - the Mega 100WR doesn't. The customer premises unit for both WiMax and CDMA is going to cost ~R2000. If Neotel offers a better deal I'm sure that Telkom will adjust their prices accordingly. Take a look on Google for Zyxel P2602 to learn more about this router and the link below.

I wouldn't wait either - I was also umming and aahing a few months ago - I was on dialup and also thought should I wait for Neotel etc. I've had dsl for more than 6 months now and its the best thing I ever did......and there's still not much movement on the Neotel front.

Thank u all for the replies and invaluable advice - a further thing, should I opt for telkom as service provider or just take the line and go with openweb or another provider that offers a better deal

thx :)

That was a joke, no? :D

Uninstalling CyberStorm v1.2, its not quick enough.

ARJ, it depends, if you're planning on using alot of bandwidth then you might want to have a look at some "uncapped" options. If you're just going to use a little, like 5Gb, then using Telkom as your ISP is worth considering.

Sorry for the hijack:o

Did Telkom extend the free wifi modem offer?

Well just order it over the phone and ask for the free modem. This offer seems to be continually extended so its probably still running.

I still think the Telkom DoBroadband 2 package for R258 is the best deal around.
You actually get about 4 Gb for above price + free WiFi Router + no contracts (this special deal was supposed to end at 31 Aug 07).
You can always buy PrePaid vouchers from Axxess for R70 per GB (international )or R17 per GB for local access.

Thing is I followed the advise in this thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=83000&highlight=adsl+installation+cost

I applied for a new line installation opting for closer plan 1 which saved me the cost of installation. That was on the 25th of August.

I then went into a Telkom shop on the 31st of August to find out if I can order DoBroadband 2 as the offer on the wifi modem was supposed to end on the 31st.

Sales consultant told me that I must first wait for the line to be installed:mad:

just called telkom 10219. free modem offer has ended. you have to pay for the router now. Think it's R899 for Mega100.
