I need some advice from those with experience with Apple. Purchased the Ipad mini in the USA 2 years ago and unit has now died entirely - simply unable to charge. Is anyone aware of procedures to take this further or is it a lost cause?

Completely out of warranty, try an iStore or the cornershop mobile phone repair shop.

Thanks. Yes..I suppose the question is whether an IPAD actually can be repaired..especially if it is a battery issue?

It's possible, the workmanship is the risk here though as the parts have to be pierced apart and then glued back together.

Completely out of warranty, try an iStore or the cornershop mobile phone repair shop.

iStore (Core) would be for in-warranty Apple products distributed through Core.

They don't touch out of warranty goods.

Thanks for the reply. At least ifix seem to be able to replace a battery. I had thought this was virtually impossible but your example leaves me with some hope!

And here's the official report from Core (Apple SA) on my IPAD mini:
UNIT DOES NOT POWER ON, DOES NOT CHARGE, IPAD PURCHASED FROM THE UNITED STATES, NO
SERVICE PARTS AVAILABLE IN SOUTH AFRICA
TO BE REPAIRED AND REPLACED IN THE U.S

The question now is whether IFix can do anything more?

The iPads we get use different parts than the ones in the US? :erm:

All about the $$$?

I don't know, this is how it has always worked for any kind of technology product. Sure there's been exceptions but generally as a rule this is why I don't buy things overseas and then expect warranty service here.

Would they be able to repair this if you were willing to pay? In other words, out of warranty?

Don't know, best is to ask them, but my gut feel tells me no because it would be against some of the rules in their company.
iFix is your best bet in this situation.

Now I am reminded of when I used to work at Motorola:
We had the same situation, handset brought in from Europe. Our systems picked it up immediately and the then COO ruled directly we were not to touch the handset and the client had to take it back overseas, or have it couriered there.

Yes, probably. But it would be helluva expensive.

And no, it's not all about the $$$, it's how all distribution channels work.

Apple Macs carry international warranties, so one bought in the U.S. would be claimable here.

Thanks all for the comments! It's probably then worth the R120 assessment fee from IFIX to get a second opinion?
