Hello good people of myBB.

10 years ago my dad became very ill and I had to leave school in grade 10 to help out in the family company. My dad past away and I have since started my own small business and gotten married.

I was doing quite well at school and dreams of becoming an engineer was always foremost on my mind. I now feel the immense urge to do what I was destined to.

I'd like to know where do I start?
I've learnt this much already:

For anyone NOT completing their matric there is no Unisa inspired shortcuts. You have to register at an educational institute and do all 7 subjects like everyone else. Might get away with 6 by dropping a second language and/or or Life Orientation.

I'd like to know if I should relearn the stuff tackled in grade 10 and 11 or should I just jump straight into the Grade 12 syllabus and hope for the best?

My focus is on the maths and science and I do believe a new CAPS curriculum has been introduced. What is this and how does it affect my plans?

Would like to be ready a year from now.

Secondly my ultimate goal is to do Electrical engineering through long distance learning of course.

Is this possible through Unisa?

:)

There are many private colleges offering matric courses for adults, just search "matric for adults" in Google and you'll get all the results you need to make an informed decision.

Once you get your matric (and pass the correct courses with the necessary results) you should have no problem studying any graduate degree you want to provided you have the money to pay for it.

I'm almost in the same boat.

I have Matric, but my marks are bad. Like barely passed kind of bad.

So, I'm rewriting subjects, but not in the way you might think. I'm doing Cambridge AS and A levels.

http://www.cie.org.uk/programmes-an...ridge-international-as-and-a-levels/subjects/

A levels are about the same level as a first year / intro university course. AS levels are a bit better than our Matric.

You can get a HESA endorsement if you follow this guide:

http://web.up.ac.za/sitefiles/file/33/7305/HESA_Cambridge brochure.pdf

To book/write exams: http://www.britishcouncil.org.za/exam/school/register/private

You'll buy the textbooks yourself (Kalahari, Loot and Takealot) and learn by yourself. You could hire a tutor for additional help if needed.

PM me if you need help. It is never too late to get in to university! Good Luck!

PS: You the Sulaco who did OpenGL tutorials way back when?

Maybe add that to this thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/180094-How-to-study-without-matric-) as it will help others.

@OP you could consider INTEC (the only time I would recommend them). Takes 2 years to do it correspondance with any place - looked into this for 2 other people who never completed matric.

Yes considered them as well as they seem to be the most accessible and well known.

Any idea why it take 2 years?
