I posted this elsewhere in this forum but circumstances are changing rapidly and I need your guys advice/assistance

I am a PABX specialist (technical product expert)(N6 Telecoms) with 16 years experience in a whole lot of Telecoms fields.....
12 Months in the Job market and nothing, and yes I am good at what I do.
There are a few factors though....my age, my race probably but most of all the convergence of Telecoms and IT......I left the industry for a few years and in that time Convergence happened to a large extent. It means now I have to up-skill in my private capacity and in my own time in order to be employable again. It's very tough. In the mean time I'm self employed getting by on my hobby that became a business (Corporate visual media production)

Well I miss the industry a hell of a lot and I'm itching to get back in again. I have realised that without an IT qualification my CV is first out the door in most cases. I have years of technical experience high level faulting, installations, management, technical support, field trialing on PABX's and their integrated Software and Hardware solutions/peripherals, ISDN PRI BRI DDI DDO VPN Carrier systems to name only a few.
So the question: I was wondering what line of study should I pursue to maintain my PABX experience but update it so that I can pursue the IT specialist integration of PABX's and and generally VOIP solutions at an advanced level? There are so many IT fields and PABX/VOIP SOLUTIONS that choosing a line of study gets really confusing especially seeing that I certainly don't want to put all the effort in to something that may be obsolete in 2 or 3 years time. Been there done that.

Any ideas would be appreciated. For the time being my own business keeps me going but I know my happiness would best be sought back in Telecoms and IT.

You make no mention of Linux.. If you dont have any expertise there yet, you may want to look into doing some Linux stuff.. Make very sure that you get a lot of practical experience in some way or the other in addition to the theory.. Most, if not all employers have potential employees do a practical test of some kind..

Also, I had a quick look through the VOIP sub forum and does not seem like you posted your question there yet, unless I missed it.. Post the question there as well.. You should get better responses there..
