Hi All

I will appreciate your inputs. I need to design a huge billboard with the inscription, "Discovery, Worst Medical Aid Providers in SA".
I have a savings account with Discovery, for the family. I recently went for some medical procedures with the entire family. The doctor insisted that I must pay with cash. After paying, I got the necessary documentation from the practitioner.
It’s been one month now since i have been trying to get my money back from my own savings account with Discovery. I have called the Customer Service more than 12 times since then (each at least 30 minutes phone calls). I have the recorded conversations.
It’s one excuse after another. Discovery consultants tell me to go get the right ICD10 codes; I go back to the practitioner; Practitioner shows me the code in the document; I go back to Discovery and they apologise; they approve for my wife and reject for me (both invoices are the same documents); i ask why they rejected one and approved the other; they apologise that they will get back to me; they don't call back; i waste another 30 minutes of airtime to call back; they tell me about ICD10 code issue again; i tell them that it is in the document; they apologise saying they will call back; and on and on and on. One month gone, not even a single dime in my account. They refused to even pay for the invoices they have approved. I have spent alot for phone calls. Now is the time to use my evidences to erect a billboard. Pleeasssse guy advise.

Well, on the Billboard (or any "hostile" action) issue - it's best not to post what you are going to do online while using the company's real name. If their social media department is any good they will have software that crawls the net looking for terms like "Discovery" and "Medical Aid" so they can track and respond to any conversation.

I know this since my best friend is head of social media at another corporation.

So basically, Discovery might already know about your plan. Better make sure you are not in the wrong here AT ALL or this can come back to you.

Also best you add the phrase "in my opinion/experience" somewhere :)

I would not touch Discovery with a (Very Long) bargepole.

They are on my list of "Company's That I do Not Trust".

Ask them for the Ombudsman contact details. If they wrong they will correct quicker. Effectively you can only approach the Ombudsman once declined but try anyhow.
Or approach their compliance officer and or key individual.
Have they not got a Facebook page or HelloPeter.
Make sure you are in the right though before you slate them.

Write to council for medical schemes.

They are the Ombud for medical aids.

Thanks Guys

I really appreciate the leads. I will try all of the above. Its always good to exhaust all peaceful means. If no positive response, then i will accept the offer someone made to my inbux to sponsor the cost of the billboard.

i had nothing but pleasures from discovery, and out of a 1.7 million rand hospital bill, i only had to pay out about R16,000.

+1. They paid out 3 major surgeries within a month for me, didn't see anything of the bill.

They are sometimes good and sometimes bad... and i think they are sneaky bugger, but they do pay for most things...

Baby 1 - they paid the 2500/month for Clexane injections for my wife. It was however a massive fight of phone call after phone call every month to get the funding out... and i was always out of pocket 4 months but they paid all 6months of it
Baby 2 - Wife needed thtem from 6wks.. so it was more injections... but rules changed so the Clexane funding was rejected. so i had the pleasure of roughly 8months of clexane to pay.

I was upset, but I came to the conclusion of, rather the devil you know than the devil you don't. I dont know who else to use :-(
