A friend of mine is looking for a home theatre system ... budget R5-6k

Any recommendations?

Also what do you guys think of systems with wireless rear speakers?

For that i'd probably go for either a yamaha HTIB or one of the Sony HTIB systems

Yea my brother bough a Sony HTiB for R8,000.00 with wireless speakers. Pretty neat.

Without wireless speakers the price dropped by R1,500.00 .... so not sure if you'll get wireless speakers at that price

+1 for Sony, also: opt for a modular system as opposed to all in one.

I have had mine for 6 months now, cant see them being that much more, especially with the current R/$ ??? Got mine at HiFi Corp in December.

At under R6000?

I think you're looking at at least double

yeah that budget only qualifies him for an all-in-one.
half decent speakers alone would cost more than 6K.

Sorry... selective blindness

Whats the word on the 'sound bar' form factor? They look very nice - sleek; unobtrusive; minimal.how do they sound though? I remeber some Samsung (I think it was) that features surround sound and a wireless sub - not certain of the price point.

I can vouch for the Sony 6.2 system. I've had it for about 2 years now.

If he wants more than that, he would have to rethink that budget.

I prefer the wired speakers.... go for a Sony Muteki 6.2

I got one and love it.... Has my PS2, mVix, SD PVR, DVD Player & TV all channelled in through it.

I'm selling my 7.2, bought on 2009/01/31 for R6,000 in excellent condition :)

Reason for sale: Don't want to move the setup, and need to raise money for transfer duties :(

Sony are releasing a Super 7.4 system in July. Don't want to know why.

Hi Dolby

Can you give me a link to this? Was it this one? http://www.sony.co.za/product/dav-dz850kw/sku/davdz850kw_csp1

The Sony DDW5000 sounds great .. but I think it will be too much for him in the complex that he lives. Also he is sold on wireless rear speakers in spite on me advising him to get wired ones.

Thanks
super dad

I also wanted to know how these sound like .... would be cool for me in my bedroom or kids play room.

He finally got this one...

Sony DAV-DZ870W comes with an updated Portable Audio Enhancer to improve the clarity and depth of a connected music player by adding information to the audio signal that had been removed during compression.
