I am looking at buying a gas stove to replace my electric stove, and it needs to be full gas to make it worth the change.

I am looking at the AEG 60cm 10306GM-MN - does anyone here have one, I would appreciate hearing your comments.

I just put in a gas hob.. electric stove for when Eskom bless us with their superior generation capacity, gas top since one does not eat foie gras in the dark.

Works like in 96.42% of the time 100%..

Does yours have a fan in the oven - if so how well does it work
It has 2 fans. Ons is for cooling between the oven and the cooker top.
The other is for convection in the oven.
Works like a charm. No different from what we had in the electric oven. Ours also have the top flame for grill.
We are extremely satisfied.

Got the 90cm one with electric oven. Just under 3 years old at the moment.

Works good. Had 1 issue, centre burner would get started but would switch off. AEG repaired it under their warranty at no cost, needed to replace a part.

Apart from that no other issues. A friend has the same, no issues on his.

Why? Assuming you're the one who does the cooking, don't you prefer an electric oven?

I've had both. Definitely prefer cooking on a gas stove, as does the significant other. Easier to gauge the heat for a start, and feels more responsive when you turn things up or down.

Only downside to gas is the pollution it generates inside the house, so make sure kitchen has ventilation or windows you can open.

I was referring to the oven, not the stove top.

I’ve always found gas ovens to heat erratically compared to their electric counterpart.

Gas stoves, on the other hand, are more responsive and are unaffected by load shedding. Ventilation is not an issue assuming you don’t live in a hermetically sealed bubble ;)

Edit. The only factor that would make me reconsider a gas oven is if I was going solar.

On a gas hob or in a gas oven?

Everyone agrees gas hob, the question is the oven?

EDIT: @bwana had the faster finger

We have 90cm AEG full gas with convection fan. Really happy with it. Just keep in mind the fans does not work without electricity. The handle of the stove can get quite hot.

It's more the savings factor. I have a Defy Thermofan stove at the moment, and with future plans to go solar, it makes more sense to have the stove full gas (apart from the fans) - having the fans in the oven should alleviate any of the problems of cooking with a gas oven.

Is yours the 60cm or 90cm version?

I did have a problem with my SMEG oven turning off after a while, but got that sorted out - the temp monitor was too far out from the flames.

Other than that, no issues. Pretty happy cooking with gas.

How do you know when someone has a SMEG...

Grew up in countries with mains gas so it was the go-to source of heat when cooking. Electric is just easier to work with.
