Bruce or whomever you are why didn't you just create a new thread with the line:
www.aerosat.co.za is back in business
By spamming old threads you are placing aerosat in a very bad light, would
Aerosat please ask the admin of mybroadband to ban this bruce nutcase, since
I will give aerosat the benefit of the doubt that they are not bruce.

And now that bruce has gotton everybody's attention that Aerosat is
back in business, would Aerosat please give us a detailed breakdown of
the legal steps they took to get Icasa of their backs. What is the point of
subscribing to Aerosat if they are shut down again by Icasa. Please
placate our concerns Aerosat.

I am stuck in the Lowveld. Anybody in PE could just walk into the High Court
and pull the files Aeorsat vs. Icasa 2004 or 2005 and then post a summary on this
forum. I think a copy per page is R1.50. December I am going down there, that is
a long time for this forum to find out what exactly did the judge say. I can't believe
people are trying to keep this secret. These procedings are public knowledge.

I can't believe Uninet/Aerosat really believe they can legally operate a Telecommunications facility under the auspices of a VANS license.

A VANS license allows you to do all those things they claim, internet, and video-conferencing, so long as you procure the facilities (connectivity) FROM A LICENSED OPERATOR.

A VANS license does not make you a bloody licensed operator...

worse of all, 10:1 contention and im pretty sure that its constantly contented at that.. the first 10 users hog 64k, the next 10 users hog the next 64k pipe etc.

Urg.. I hope their setup work different to what I think it is.

From their legal page:
"UniNet service provision entails the delivery of an Ethernet CPE device to each end user. At no time is the end-user (client) operating a telecommunications service or equipment besides the Ethernet point that UniNet provides. All wireless communications equipment is owned and operated by UniNet on the client premises. This absolves the end user from any license requirements, and places the sole responsibility for the service licensing with UniNet."

Exactly, so a community network simply sets up a 'shelf' company who 'sells'
us a service. And you do exactly the same with Dslam cables crossing public
roads as described in the thread:
Calling all wireless providers which seems to have created
some interest in Dslam technology. Me cut through that road? Never, it was Woem-Woem wireless. With 30 houses connected via copper wire, you need
only one roof for the parabolic uplink to the Internet signal. So lets assume
Icasa confiscates that parabolic, then just put the parabolic on the next
house and budget for a confiscation.

If I remember correctly Telkoms contention ratio is around 50:1 on their 512 and 384 package. This equates to 512/50 = 10.24 or 384/50 = 7.68.

Uninet's contention ratio on the 64k package is 8:1. This equates to 64/8 = 8.

Not quite as good as telkom's 512 package, but then again it only costs R399 and no cap.

erm, Telkom nearly never hit 80% of any contention.. thats why you allways get max speed basicly, except lately early/end month with downloads then u may get effect of 2:1 or 3:1 contention. The problem with wireless contention, they got 512k and from the root content it for the first 10 packages.. they dont have 100mbit and put 200 users on it, if you apply contention to that, realisticly you dont get heavy contention ever even on a 50:1 contention.

Hey guys

Just had AEROSAT come out yesterday and do an install (64k), it now costs R295.00 per month which Im happy to pay.
Running thr connection off of an IPCOP machine, I had some issues but changed the MTU/MRU down to 1352 which has given me a very very stable connection, its plenty quick when compared to the crap dialup via telkom copper cable which was setting me back 400 a month in phone bills alone (thanx to the luverly disconnects once you have paid your R8.00, telkom you bastards).
Anyhow the setup was very simple, just a flat directional antenna running off a common WIFI bridge with some cable.
Ive just come back from the US about 2 months back where I had a Wireless connection via Sprint with 5.0mb max bandwidth for about $50.00 per month.
So returning to deepest darkest Africa with dialup was not a fun experience.
Anyhow the guys that did the install where very professional and did a real neat install job, so far the 64k Ive purchased is well worth it.
Hopefully they can continue to beat Telkoms "bum buddys" Icasa off with a stick.

Cheers

Hi Sheldon.
So what is the service like?
And are they legal??
I would like to use them as well, but the thought of the R1500.00 up payment so they can buy the dish and equipment (that they take back when you leave them) has put me off.

I have read the icasa court case, but it seemed to become a issue of whether the tower pc`s are part of the transmitters or not.
More than the question: Are they legal or not.

Is there a definite answer??

Can someone help please?
Thanks and have a good new year all.

Had pretty bad service from them, constant connection drops, downtime etc. But that was a couple of years ago.

Why don't you look at iBurst. Contact Netformatix on 086-111-4731, they will do a free signal test for you. (Or demo if need be).
