Affordable DSL router... Which one?

I'm shopping around for a cheap/quality router...

I.e. one in the middle of the spectrum.

I don't need 4 RJ45 ports, 1 will do. 4 would be nice... And some basic routing/firewall functionality...

I've seen a netgear one (DG632UK) for around R600. Anything else?

Or should I just use a spare PC as a router and get a cheap modem? (Which is gonna be more than R600)

Lanworld asks R400 for a D-Link DSL-300T (its got one ethernet port), But u can link the modem to your Hub/Switch. Same thing

D-Link 300T is a very stable modem/router, its affordable. and has firewall and all the goodies. It does the job.

My buddy runs his 4mbit line on that one, no prob.

I did see this one, and it seemed like a really good option. I didn't know that it was a router, thought just a modem.

Then that's definitely the best option at the moment. (I have an 8port switch laying around)

Go for netgear. I use it and it's very nice, stable and wonderful lol. WIth the ability to host from your computer via the router. Example: http://myaccount.dyndns.org would be your domain. myaccount replaced by your own though ;) very nice...

That'd be like a R250+ difference... :/

I don't think i'd like it that much. And I have good hosting, so i don't need to host stuff myself.

Can't I just port forward with the DLink to do the same?

Yeah, Linksys is also a topbrand, forgot about that one..

But they are a bit pricy at times... But as the saying goes "You get what you pay for". If something is cheap, it might not have all the functions or specs u need.

D-Link is not a bad brand either...I'd go with either D-Link or netgear...

Hi

I would either go for Billion or Netgear.

I would recommend Billion.

Billion range from R440.00 up

Netgear range from R778.00 up.

I stock both Billion and Netgear.

How come I've never heard of Billion?

Do a search on the forum. Also the Billion guys are on this forum giving support.

Have a look at billionsa.com.

Billion is a growing brand in SA and becoming very popular!

Ok, so here's the list.

D-Link DSL-300T.
Billion 5200S.

I'm going for the D-Link, but I'll investigate the specs when I have time, and before the line gets installed... Which will take a while.
