For me, Panyaza Lesufi is a bad MEC because he appears to care more for photo opportunities where he fights perceived racism at historically white schools, than for serious problems that plague historically black schools. For example, there are historically black schools with very poor infrastructure, that you rarely hear anything about from Lesufi. But, he's happy to spend huge sums of money on his tablet project, and should there be, say, a nursery school where a black child is photographed sitting by himself, rest assured that Lesufi will pitch up with a coterie of photographers and journalists in line, to give the school hell. He just seems very disingenous to me. He also shoots from the hip. One of the few times that I heard him express concern over historically black schools, was when he said of the principals of several schools that had very low matric pass rates, that those principals should consider themselves fired. What a stupid thing to say to the media, without even knowing the reasons for the low pass rates in those schools. Perhaps their pass rates are low because of a lack of basic infrastructure, because Lesufi prioritises tablets over basic infrastructure. In fact, such top down pass rate interference, where you threaten teachers with dismissal if their pass rates aren't up to some pre-determined standard, is very unethical, for it creates a conflict of interest in the teachers and principals. A teacher's role is part gate-keeper and guardian of academic standards, but will they do this when threatened with dismissal, or will they take the easy way out and just mark generously and do some creative tricks with computing the marks of their learners? For me, Lesufi is basically a politician. He had no background in education when he started as MEC. It's a bit like having a CA run a hospital.

AfriForum takes Lesufi on over assassination claim as spat turns ugly

Johannesburg - The spat between AfriForum and Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has taken an ugly turn, this time with the lobby group threatening to sue Lesufi for claiming the group was behind an assassination plot against him. On Sunday, Lesufi, giving an update on the admissions and placement of pupils in Gauteng schools for 2020, said the campaign launched against him by AfriForum was merely a "smokescreen".

This guy's seriously losing it. He sounds more and more terrified of white Afrikaners. He probably sees an innocent white guy behind him in Checkers and thinks he must be an assassin

I want to read your post, but the lack of paragraphs is a discouragement to do so.

Lesufi blasted the lobby group for abusing processes to advance their own agenda and the numerous attempts to take him out for his stance on schooling in Gauteng.
Kettle-pot-black. Lesufi has overplayed his hand in this arena many times.

"We are resolute, all our schools in this province belong to all our children. Gone are the days of schools that belong to kleinbaases alone. There will be no kleinbaas only schools in this province.
Nice one. How did that go down previously? Attacking 'kleinbaas' schools that are full (with not just 'kleinbaas'). Ignoring what our constitution says. ...

In a video put up by the Gauteng department of education, Lesufi said he was being targeted because he was one of the very few people who resisted their attempt to build an Afrikaans-only university.
Double down in stupidity? Yet the worshippers believe it! :X3:

The acrimony between AfriForum and Lesufi has been building over their differences of opinion on Afrikaans language teaching, and schools dedicated to education in the language
... with Lesufi not liking what the constitution says.

In a live stream of the full press conference on Sunday posted by the SABC, Lesufi said AfriForum is taking advantage of the Constitution and genuine fears of certain sections of society.
Hmm, so should they not, does he have a problem with the constitution? What did Mogoeng say?

This guy is a racist of note. He definitely does not practice what he preaches.

I suspect his Zumaesqe poisoning is in preparation for a Zumaesqe defense: "... cannot attend, those white okes poisoned me!" ;)

His hatred for Afrikaners seems a bit unhinged, I wonder what white man hurt him.

It is a bit ironic that the MEC of education cannot muster enough reading skills to understand the difference between Afrikaans and Afrikaners. That college he berated just wants an Afrikaans school, but he keeps on talking about an Afrikaner school.

He must be one of those ANC leaders that never claimed to have a matriek.

I see Mzasi Twitter en masse is picking sides with Panyasa. During this hot debate, a racist bomb was dropped on Panyasa by some random and new 'white' Twitter user, the Twitter user has since been banned, but this sparked a racial discussion.

Panyasa is losing the plot, and he knows how to weaponise social media.

I like how some people are saying then when you don't accept the change you are racist...

I have no idea what makes Afriforum even think they can influence the Makhura to remove him, but he is being an amateur by even entertaining Afriforum.

He certainly is an amateur. No help needed from Afriforum.

They are both being amateurs in this case, Afriforum for thinking they can get him fired and him for entertaining their attempts.

But I am sure both can use the publicity.

There is no level of incompetence, racism, theft, corruption, and/or fraud, that can get a cadre fired.
True, it is generally complicated to fire people in politics, that's why they come up with fancy names for it, like "recalled".

DA defends under-fire Gauteng education MEC Lesufi

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is defending Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi amid a campaign by lobby group AfriForum to get him to resign over claims of mismanagement.

Lesufi has been the target of numerous campaigns by the civil rights organisation and more recently by the Institute of Race Relations (IRR), accusing him of bias against the Afrikaans language and failing to manage his department.

DA shadow MEC for education Khume Ramulifho, however, said while there was no excuse for failing to follow Treasury regulations, it could not be said that Lesufi was a corrupt MEC who stole money.
