Afrihost Mobile Feedback

@AfriNatic @Afrigirl I've just purchased a new iPhone 15 but having difficulty transferring my AirMobile eSIM from my old iPhone 13 to my new iPhone 15.

I have tried scanning the QR code on the new iPhone while the eSIM is active in the old one. This failed. Then I tried turning off the eSIM in the old iPhone and trying the process again, which also failed.

I'm scared to delete the eSIM entirely because what if I can't add it back? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
You will need to disable the eSim on your old phone - an eSim can by design only be linked to one phone at a time.
Then Afrihost needs to send you a new activation code, which you register on your new phone as normal.

I am giving up. I ported my number to afrihost from telkom. Then the whole eSim issue happened and I asked them to deliver me a physical sim but now it looks like my number that I have had for 30 years is in limbo because the physical sim they delivered has a new number. Very bad customer service because you get passed between service center agents and every time you need to explain everything and instead of them just fixing it they tell you to go into the app and do it yourself.

Who can help me ?

Really not going to have a happy person if I lose my number.
Hi there rterblanche, I am really sorry to hear that you have been struggling on that side. Please forward me the contact number that you signed up with via PM so I can be able to investigate and advise.

No need to, but thanks ; the latest, from 8h10 am :

Our Courierit Driver has your CONVERGEX parcel and will deliver it today. Please check your delivery details on the following link:
(withdrawn)

EDIT - just been delivered.
Now to check that it allocates a new number / works.
Glad that the package was delivered, and do let me know if you struggle with anything.

What error are you getting on your iPhone 15 when you try to use it? With the QR did it show you any error message? Please send me a PM with the contact number so I can investigate.

Thank you! I did need to take the leap of faith and delete the eSIM from my old phone, then re-add to my new phone. I did not need a new activation code, which was nice - the same one worked.

When I tried to scan the QR code with the iPhone 15, I got a generic error “could not activate eSIM. Contact MTN for assistance”. Those errors make sense now because I still have the eSIM active in my old iPhone 13.

But I should have been able to transfer the eSIM from old to new. It didn’t work. When I tried to transfer, I got the error “The SIM in your old iPhone does not support eSIM transfer”.

I’ll DM the screenshots.

@AfriGuy does the new Airmobile have "out of bundle" at all? Or if you finish your bundle that's it until you add a new one?

Can airtime be converted to data?

Afrihost MVNO (through MTN) setup & working, but not that great.

This speedtest is during loadshedding (which I forgot about at first), so hopefully will improve but I think Telkom does better overall where I'm situated.

Still usable, though, but Telkom will remain primary provider unless we get fibre, which I'm seriously considering soon.
This seems common I think MTN throttle during loadshedding could even argue vodacom too in some areas

Possible, but I did another one this morning for fun using Openserve, with no loadshedding recently or currently.

It auto selected a server in Bloem., which seemed strange as usually from PE it'll generally be to CPT, otherwise occasionally (depending on the LTE network) to JHB.

Very similar result to the one done previously :

(date & time at bottom of page)

... so I don't think LS the other day had any influence on that result, but rather the strange routing from PE to BFN instead of the usual CPT.

Another point is when I first used Afrihost / MTN a few years ago, I was getting about 45 down / 45 up on speedtests (in Huawei router) with mid 20's ms latency.

Degraded over time before leaving the for Telkom, but I was still expecting more from these most recent tests of Afrihost as an MTN MVNO.

Don't think anyone else's posted any (especially not in PE), so have no point/s of comparison.

@AfriGuy

Can you explain this to me?

If you port to another network, rates will be calculated based on the ORIGINAL network you signed up for, not the new network you ported to - this is a restriction from our upstream provider. E&OE.

I know, but old Airmobile had OOB rates, just trying to see if this is another feature not carried over.

@Afrigirl @AfriNatic @AfriGuy any OOB or convert airtime to data on the MVNO? Assume not just want to check.
No OOB at the moment. You will need to top up if you run out of data or Airtime.
You can't use airtime to buy data
