Hi
Im a little confused , On the Octotel website they Say fiber for the marina is imminent , yet when i went to Afrihost's site they said they'll give me fiber from Octotel in about 5 weeks from Jan 15 2018.

Has anyone In the Muizenberg /Marina da Gama area had the same experience / actually got fiber installed ?
Just wondering if Afrihost is just talking Big or its actually happening , Ive seen no lines being put in in my area.

thx

Hi freaker, you must be new to this country.

"imminent" here means "1 to 60 years and or weeks and or days and or years weeks and days" ;)

The reason why Afrihost will only be able to access Octotel's fibre after 5 weeks of the install is because Octotel needs to do a few things after digging/laying cable before ISP's can start transacting on their system. This is where the delay comes into play usually.

How do I know? They pulled fibre into my estate in September (finished beginning October) and we were only able to have installs happen in November due to this reason.

@envo thats actually why im asking cus Octo says Immanent but Afrihost says im good to go .
Does that mean that after 15 jan Afrihost will tell octo to go put the line in (taking 5 weeks), or is afrihost just trying to lock in customers and they have no way to get Octotel to get the line to my house within the next "1 to 60 years and or weeks and or days and or years weeks and days"

Octotel also shows as Pre-Order on Axxess site(past 2 months) - but they use any applications as a gauge on how many people want it before they start roll-out. So do apply - either directly or via an ISP.

I am in Muizenberg and don't see us getting any fibre connection for the next 6 months - if we lucky......

btw have they started trenching your streets yet?

I'm also in MdG and wondering the same as you are. Recently heard that somebody in Muizenberg was talking about getting AH/Octotel fibre. Sorry, I don't have any other news or info for you, but am interested in how it's going for you and others. I was just about to look into increasing my ADSL speed, as fibre seemed to be far off - now I have to rethink it. :) I'm on Park Island.

I would advise you compare their Fibre offerings with others like Cool ideas you will be surprised at the cost difference.
Different products really, we don't have any usage limitations on our services.

That's why I hope they do the comparison, in the hope they utilize their fibre correctly and not have an ISP scam them with ADSL practices.

So, I can't comment on Octotel, other than that they have done this in some areas up here as well, however, we are busy rolling out in Muizenberg.

Mr Wizard sir, could you be more specific please? Which "we" is that, and which parts of Muizenberg are you rolling out in? Using which fibre infrastructure provider? Apologies if this should be obvious, but I'm an infrequent MBB follower.
