With Afrihost buying themselves back from MTN one can only assume they are going to offer FTTH packages with Vumatel, Fibrehoods, DFA and all the others.

Does anyone have any idea when they might announce this?

I was with them for 7 or 8 years before I got fibre. Their service is much better than anything else I've experienced. So I want to get away from Vox as soon as possible. I also have friends getting fibre soon (Oct/Nov) and I have told them to wait a bit for Afrihost.

Thanks in advance for any inside info :D

Nobody knows, but I would recommend you look at Cool Ideas, they are very good. Would recommend them over any other ISP any day of the week.

Thank you, but I'm planning to leverage Afrihost+ with multiple products (FTTH + sim + sim + ...)

I have heard good things about Cool Ideas. I prefer my capped 100mbps over a slower uncapped line.

We're definitely diving into fibre, but I can't confirm much detail at this stage I'm afraid :(
Watch this space though! More specifically, the MyBB front page.

New age uncapped is just as fast as capped services, issue with IPC in the past was trying to make business sense but still offering lower prices. This isn't the case any longer with the open access guys, we as ISPs get to rather allocate more bandwidth resources than ever before. If we start to reach our capacity on a link, we upgrade it, simple as that :).

is that not still a numbers game, but does carry the same weight it did in the past(IPC)?

It's always a numbers game in business :), but in the past you would have to buy IP transit which is your internet bandwidth, you would then also pay for IPC to Telkom which costs more than international IP Transit per/mbps. You would then also have to pay for a line fee.

So the way ISPs would structure things is to use the IPC wisely, which is where after-hours gigs etc all comes in. Also with all the undersea capacity coming on you will see a massive spike in bandwidth purchase which attracts lower rates etc.

We believe that the time and money spent on metering and billing clients easily equates to just buying more capacity and catering for the service of unlimited.

Just receive this mail from Afrihost (as all customers would have):

TL;DR Afrihost Fibre launching soon, but no dates

"Afrihost Fibre

Fibre is just around the corner!!

As always, we're working to give you the best of the internet, and that means fast, reliable connections. Fibre is the best quality internet connection available and it is becoming a viable home connectivity solution for many. It's blazing fast and reliable, plus it doesn't use a regular copper line from Telkom, so you can save even more!

Afrihost will be offering amazing deals in the areas that have Fibre, and you'll get the incredible help offered by our Support team to get you up and running with ease. We're making Fibre easy and affordable, so stay tuned."

You made it sound like an announcement is imminent. Getting fibre installed in 2 days... And then you will probably go live a week after.
