Well @AfriMan , if we looking at local issues.... 100/100 on SADV.

So this is probably going to require more troubleshooting from my side (again).

Please send me a list of tests that need to be done and at what times so we can resolve this issue.

Local latency is pretty horrible there. Can you please do a couple of traceroutes? Are you on Openserve?

Not that I agree with whatever that guy said but I haven't received a single SMS or E-Mail about the situation. If I wasn't reading this forum every couple of days i'd have no clue what is happening and neither my parents. So yeah your communication could be improved upon.

I've also got pretty garbage latency to the UK / EU since this started. Are you stating above it shouldn't be this bad?

Seeing the same degraded international performance too. I thought it was still capacity issues but I see guys getting full speed internationally when I can barely browse/download without a VPN? 200/25 line with Octotel, CPT.

Actually seemed snappier this morning as I was browsing around. Tested to a server that wasn't Vodafone in the UK and performance is indeed a lot better. Besides the increased latency, the rest can probably be explained by Octotel's garbage network:

I think there may still be capacity issues, because last night the latency to london was garbage (220ms~) and it was jumping all over the place. Also I was streaming a movie on dstv now last night and the quality kept dropping intermittently, if it were pulling from a local source it shouldnt have had any issues. Doing a speedtest from the machine showed <10Mbps ST download to london during that time.

I don't know anymore, it's really tough to tell at the moment whether it's AH not having enough capacity, Seacom being garbage or this weird setup they have going with Telkom up / Seacom down.

I think it's from the sign-up date - but February will be the 6th month, so you might not have completed 6 full months.

Definitely haven't run out of capacity, but remember that until the west coast cables are repaired we can only work with what's available. So there could be some additional latency and diminished speeds - to a certain extent. Our main aim is to optimise the available resources we have until everything comes back online.

Latest reports are pointing to a repair around 8 Feb or so - so we still have a bit of a wait to go.

Our network team are going to be pushing out some more updates that should also improve some areas of the experience.

The router is yours. So the router is yours from the time you receive it - it's not a question of free-to-use. We charge a cancellation fee if you cancel before 6 months, but that's to mitigate the overall costs we cover (installation, activation, etc). We don't ask for the router back.

Hi @AfriMan, I am looking to install a Vumatel Fibre on your Gigabit package as a failover connection to our primary business fibre line.

What I would like to know is if I can use my existing enterprise Firewall instead of a crappy little consumer router and plug directly into the Vumatel CPE. I assume its just DHCP over ethernet.

The guys are working on keeping packet loss to a minimum first, and then bringing down latency thereafter.

From my discussion with our network manager, they're working under very tight resource constraints (in terms of bandwidth). While it's not ideal, we may need to accept some short periods of poor latency while we wait for the cables to be fixed.

That's maybe a bit more involved to answer off the bat. Short answer is you probably can use most devices on your ONT, as long as it does DHCP.

Just to be clear, we do Fibre to the Home, and not Fibre to the Business. So Vuma may not complete installation if it's a home order and they see that this is a business.
