Afrihost launches mobile deals with data from R2.99 per GB

Afrihost has started rolling out a new set of monthly cellular packages on its mobile virtual network operator, AirMobile, which offers data prices as low as R2.99 per GB bundled with an allocation of airtime.

Even the cheapest AirMobile monthly package offers 1GB of mobile data for effectively R19 — a huge discount on the typical prepaid bundles or even postpaid cellphone plans in South Africa.

Have been with them for about a year now and moved the rest of the family to them as well.

No problems to date and the mobile app is very useful. 👏

Pretty much go with them, @afriteam on the forum the wonders for the product with all the help and effort they put in solving problems here

Helped me more then a few times with issues

Very happy with Airmobile.

I am not actually sure what changed - maybe I don't remember everything that well but I thought Air 5 was priced like that before with the same allocations? Not complaining though.

Not bad. But I don't see where on the airmobile app where or how to get the monthly option. Anyone knows?

The article says "those that require a physical SIM will receive free delivery on their order" but Afrihost's page on delivery and costs says:

How much will it cost?

  • Standard delivery fee is R249.
  • A RICA delivery fee of R249 will apply to SIM card orders where the cart value or 12-month value of the transaction is less than R1000.
Which is correct @AfriNatic @Afrigirl ?

As someone on the legacy AirMobile who uses relatively little data unless going the eSIM route they still seem extremely expensive for SIM delivery relative to the alternatives if their website is up to date.

(Also still no international roaming according to their website)

Wanted to go with Airmobile because well, nostalgia.
But my current configuration is R528.

200GB MTN data @R329 and
Unlimited calls and sms at R199 on Melon Mobile.
Oh and Melon gives me 5GB data which I never get to use
Oh, the other thing is MTN has Data Share.

Tap on the Shopping cart icon, then you will see the products 'AirMobile Monthly' and 'AirMobile Data Only' as options.

I start anticipating a deluge of BS whenever I see the word effectively being used in this context.
Open to using a different word... or just removing it. But I don't think that's entirely fair because different people will evaluate the packages differently.

Anyway: You just have to subtract the R10 airtime from the total price to get what you're paying for the data. I don't think that's unreasonable as I reckon many people will have some use for R10 voice/SMS airtime every month.

Fair enough - if you subscribe and don't send any smses and don't make any calls how much does the 1gb effectively cost?

Anyway - at the end of the day you're paying R29 for a gb.

And that's why the "effectively" is in there. Because there will be one guy who says he doesn't call anyone :)

Hi,

Standard delivery for Airmobile SIM cards is R29.
I will contact the team to update the site and distinguish the fees for Airmobile and LTE SIM cards.

Roaming on Airmobile has not yet been enabled.

I'm curious what the hold up is? All MTN MVNO's seem to have the exact same issue so I'm guessing that the issue is with MTN. It's really such a pity because I've been itching to port over from your legacy product ever since Airmobile launched but I simply can't survive without international roaming and VoWIFI.
