Democratic Alliance vows to fight state of disaster in court

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen has announced that the official opposition will challenge the national state of disaster to address South Africa's energy crisis in court.

"In the absence of any real solutions to the permanent loadshedding crisis created by the ANC, President Cyril Ramaphosa during his SONA address desperately grasped at the straw of a sweeping National State of Disaster," Steenhuisen said in a statement as soon as the president concluded his speech.

They had very specific requirements that oversight remains which of course didn't happen. Just more clickbait rubbish.

Just as a reminder,

Declare Eskom State of Disaster now, President Ramaphosa

I am not going to quote the article by large or the previously published articles on this matter by the DA, but I will highlight what the DA wants,

The very first thing President Ramaphosa needs to do when he steps off the plane is to declare a ring-fenced State of Disaster around Eskom.

so... a parliamentary oversight committee. I haven't seen what is gazetted, but I would like to know whether such a provision was made?

Then, the DA opposed that oversight be moved to the energy department, but as we know a whole new ministry will be established. Very electrical, mind you.

All we can do is wait and see what happens when the restructuring takes place. Who will be made minister?

As much as the DA wants to challenge the SoD, they still wanted it... The ANC will exploit this without a doubt.

DA are mad that they aren't the ones declaring it and getting on the gravy train. What do you expect?

The problem is, the ANC government hasn't given any feedback on how the spending of money will be controlled. A state of disaster lessens all the controls on the spending of money to clear red tape more easily. The ANC will take this opportunity to steal even more tax money.

Well, we have it now...
So hopefully all will be well soon...
