Hey guys I'm considering buying a Ford Figo 1.4 ambiente and insurance would be r1500 or so based on online quotes based on my profiling. So my question would be, how much would I pay to insure my car sound worth r5000 but purchased from a friend for r1500?

1) damn that's an insane insurance quote for a Figo. You must be incredibly young or incredibly stupid with cars
2) insurance don't care what you paid for it. They care about the amount you insure it for
3) no idea what you will pay. Ask the insurance company. Some insurance companies charge a flat instalment up to a certain value and others want it specified separately...

You can include it in your car value but note it on the schedule. Your excess could be your cars excess though. Or specify it under all risks at market rates between 8 to 12% of its value excess between R250 and 10% min R500.
Get and work through a broker is my advice.

You can finance a car on that insurance premium. What does your claim history look like?

About the sound system, you should be able to specify it on your policy.
Hint : Don't! You are already being grilled like a kwê-voël

Just an fyi for people saying it's too expensive, it's not.

Here are quotes for comprehensive insurance with details:

2014 Ford Figo Ambiente
Driven by 22yo male with licence since 2012 who has not had insurance before
Parked in yard with locked gates in Centurion area

Note the excess amounts, these are the cheapest quotes of the bunch.

Just a reminder.

@Azlan What would the excess amount be?

Jirremiah! I'm paying R550 for 2010 Corsa insured for the same value as that Figo plus another car worth R39k. They are really smoking you there. That being said I have been driving for 14 years and my last accident (3 car write off) was 10 years ago *touch wood*

Well, it really depends on all of the factors. I currently pay +-R500pm for my 07 Polo 1.9tdi on a family member's insurance to save cash. After checking hippo now quotes for me are from R 853.06 to R 1 618.30 depending on which company (the cheapest having an excess of R7000. Age, how long you've had your licence and how long you've had insurance are large factors.

Talk to a broker... Those quotes are all from hippo hey?

Outsurance wanted to charge me r1400 per month for my Mercedes... Talked to a broker, got insurance for r400 per month give or take.

Those online quote sites are pretty much always way more expensive than going to a broker

Get a quote from a real broken not that online nonsense.

You'll probably pay half of that for everything. Car sound at R5000 is small change.

It's not enough to even be worth mentioning compared to the money saved over other insurers.
