Age of empires online is free to play:

It seems pretty interesting, considering i loved the entire series. There are obviously add-ons and items that you can buy, but most of the game is available free.
Its about a gig to download.

Just a quick heads up:
"Currently, if you reside in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, or South Africa, you are unable to purchase civilizations, booster packs, vanity items, or bundles through the Age of Empires Online store found in the game. Until this issue is resolved, please make your purchases via the Games For Windows – LIVE client, which can be downloaded at: http://www.xbox.com/Live/PC/DownloadClient. Once you download this client, you’ll be able to make your purchase through the Marketplace tab. Please be assured we are working to fix this as fast as possible."

A premium civilization costs R169 through the Games for Windows LIVE store but there is also a retail version (Premium Greek Civ) which is available through btgames.co.za for R99.

yeah played a bit, at lvl 5 now.

i will probably buy the addons if i like it later on.

got myself the premium greek from btgames, so ya starting the fun now, cant wait to pvp :p

lets start. Everything. There is like no tutorial to learn. Its just like dota if you are noob you WILL stay noob. League Of Legends has a tut atleast so you won't stay noob.

The quests given at the beginning of a new city is the tutorial.

I am battling to purchase the premium pack, it keeps telling me "please enter a valid credit card number"
i've tired 3 different credit cards and none of them worked, is any one else having this issue?

In-game purchases aren't available for SA yet, but you should still be able to buy through the Live Marketplace. Have you bought anything from overseas on your card before? I know certain cards need authorisation before you can make international purchases.
Or maybe the site is experiencing a problem, try again tomorrow then contact their support through one of the links here:

Also, have you tried through the Games for Windows LIVE client, Marketplace tab?
