Jeez, now he'll be cheating on five wives.

Zuma set to tie the knot for a fifth time

Exactly a year after ANC President Jacob Zuma married his fourth wife, plans to marry his fifth wife are well under way with his bride-to-be presenting gifts to Zuma's family in his Nkandla home on Monday.

Zuma has already paid lobolo [our tax ] for his fiancee, Thobeka Mabhija, described as a Durban socialite, and she will present gifts to Zuma's family, known as umbondo.

Could you imagine the new state presidents travel abroad - can just picture him visiting Obama with his five wives on his arm.

My foul mouth got my post removed. Allow me to rephrase - who the hell would want to marry this guy?

Lets disregard the moral issues for a moment, and think what an additional burden this will be on us tax payers.

As if it weren't embarrassing enough just having him as state president

Just because modern western 'morals' forbid having multiple wives at the same time (though it's fine to do it in series) doesn't mean there is something inherently wrong or unethical about it. I know christians like to think they are the ultimate authority on that's right or wrong and everyone else must bow to that or be damned, but really... It's our culture that says one husband - one wife, not some universal moral law.

What would be embarrassing, Frankie, would be a president who cowers to the colonial demands of western culture. Zuma is a Zulu man who has the right to marry many woman if he so desires, even if it offends you sensibilities.

And mercurial, who asked 'who the hell would want to marry this guy?'
Jacob Zuma is loved and adored by millions of South Africans. In case you didn't notice.

And Ady, no it's not illegal.

Is this "lobola" not confused with "Intlawulo" (Xhosa term, not sure of the of the Zulu one)?

He may have just paid what is like "damages" to the chicks family for knocking her up. I have yet to see a news report that says he is going to marry her.

We've got a live one here. A JZ supporter to the last breath.

1) SA law forbids bigamy. To use a cultural "norm" to get around it is just a cop out for those who think they are above the law.

2) Correct, Zuma is loved by millions. A demonstration of what we have to fear from stupid people in large groups affecting the results of elections.

No, I was just answering your question 'who the hell would want to marry this guy'
Answer is lots of people - millions! I didn't say anything about it being right or wrong.

SA law does not. The 1998 law recognising customary marriages opened the way for full legal recognition of polygamy in South Africa for the first time since before the colonial era.

Yep, don't you love democracy!

Customary marriages? What does that entail? What stops me as a agnostic white guy from now taking on a couple more wives?

Yep, don't you love democracy!
I do indeed. Unfortunately it goes awry when your average voter is not capable of reasoning effectively for his/herself.

African mentality FTW

He is a corrupt retard but the masses still follow him blindly. I guess Mugabe is also adored by millions of Africans.

IMO his 'culture' is corrupt and Africa needs to get out of 'culture' mentality if it wants to compete with the rest of the world.

Well there is also that little thing of living and being in a civilized era joelus, but obviously that does not have any effect on Zuma. I wonder if all his brides also like showering so much?

That reminds me: I wonder how keen his new wife will be to consummate the marriage? It is widely known that his "rape victim" was HIV positive and he was unprotected while engaging in the act.
