Yeah I see now it's 9k for the indoor and another 9k for the outdoor which makes it crazy expensive.
Why can nobody build a stand alone thing with no installation required? Surely it's possible.

I got this for 5K (Dionwired matched a special at Makro) - http://www.dionwired.co.za/air-con/delonghi-portable-air-conditioner.html (still needs a hose going out a window) - works very well and is portable ;-)

It was finally installed last night (Samsung Q9000). R18,000 including installation.

To me it looks like it takes away a large chunk of floor-space (compared to united being mounted on the wall just below the ceiling). I suppose it depends on the layout/interior design of your house - or?

There was a lamp on the spot before, so it has taken up some space. The new Samsung wall mounted air conditioners are awful looking (my SO hated it).

About a year ago rigged out our entire office which is why I figure you could do three home units for the money or close to it.

Another R1,300 spent to put air conditioner on own circuit with isolator(s). The electrician had to pull the wires from the board through 7 plugs.
