Air Time Transfer & Fraud

Vodacom creates various packages for different usage profiles, target markets, etc.

On top of these, value added services are provided, such as the ability to transfer air time.

Unfortunately these package and service offerings can (and do) lead to abuse and fraudulent transactions.

As pointed out by members of the forum, this is why certain package/service combintions, such as air time transfer of the Family Topup base is not allowed.

You can appreciate the sensitivity of this type of information, thus this sparse to reply to Nikste's query.

Problem is there are most probabily people getting a free phone or reduced monthly subscriptions for signing 24month Topup contracts then who then sell the airtime by transfering. Clearly then Vodacom is loosing on the deal which related to "fraud".

Vodacom should just make the topup airtime contract clear that "use how you like" excludes transfer of the included month topup amount just like International Roaming does with bundles/free minutes

Well thats not fraud, now is it! Its 100% legal.

The fraud was not being committed by customers. As a matter of fact, it was the customers who were being ripped off. And not by Vodacom. Go figure.

Have a look at MTN, they don't allow any top-up type prepaid air time transfers. Wonder why?

Does this mean as a Vodacom contract customer (excl Top-up) who has airtime transfer activate (compliments of Vodacomsp - never asked for it to be activated) you could also be vunerable?

I know this was discussed a long while back - but up until recently my cousin was sending her son airtime from her top up airtime (so she insists) and now she cant. So when was it removed that you cant use your top up airtime to transfer?

In some chat rooms I've seen people trying to trick other people into sending them airtime by telling them to type in a long code with their phone number supposedly to see a picture of them. This is fraudulent activity I think.
