I'm sure it was an accident. I'd hate to be there right now

At least one person has died after an aircraft crashed into the side of an apartment building on the New York island of Manhattan.

The building is on fire and people are believed to be trapped by the "very heavy smoke".

There is confusion as to whether it was a plane or helicopter that crashed into the building on the Upper East Side, on East 72nd Street and York Avenue.

Authorities have said the crash is unlikely to be a result of terrorism.

At least one apartment on the 19th floor and two or three apartments on the 20th floor are ablaze.

The building is 50 storeys high and the smoke from the fire can be seen from seven miles around.

One witness said: "It's really bad."

Another witness told Fox News the scene was "pandemonium".

He said: "There was a lot of horror and terror on the street when it happened. It was a loud explosion and I couldn't tell if it was the sound of a bomb... then i saw the black smoke and people were running and screaming."

Got a shock when I saw the headline on News24 but reading around websites, it seems as though it was more of an accident than anything else.

Wasn't Manhattan declared a no fly zone or has that been removed? If it's still a no fly zone then it's weird how those planes are allowed to fly into the Manhattan airspace.

It was a helicopter that flew into a midtown appartment building, nothing like 9/11

Well if it is a terrorist attack it might have something to do with U.S mid term election.

I think there is very little chance of it being a terrorist attack.

BTW, they now are saying it was a fix-winged aircraft.

There is always much confusion just after an event like this. We'll get the proper facts soon enough.

Conspiracy on/....Bush is looking for a reason to attack North Korea and then Iran. As he miscalculated the previous costs he now chose a multiple of small planes to "create" cost effective reasons. So watch the news as more is on the way Hoze'
Conspiracy Off!

Looking at the picture on cnn.com the aircraft didn't even enter the building. It hit it and fell. There's only like 2 windows burning. Building > aircraft.

Yeah where is Kilo with his CIA did it with a remote controlled plane piloted by an Arab man's corpse. Just like they blew up the Madrid trains to keep the
conservative government in charge(which backfired because the CIA is stupid like Bush).

US put fighter aircraft over major cities: This is ubsurd. If this was a terrorist attack, it would have been much bigger, like a passenger plane into an important bulding. This is only a small crash, and even the FBI believes it was an accident.

So why the hell are they putting up fighter jets? Just as a precaution?

Yeah! initially the first plane that hit the Towers was also though an accident! So why is it Absurd to take precautionary measures, only because its the USA

I just think it's a little far-fetched to be going crazy about a LITTLE airplane that crashed into an apartment building. Not because it's the USA (I lived there and love it there).
