So I will check my balance and then check it again 10 minutes later and see that it has gone down by a few cents. What could be causing this?

I thought it might be the push email, but does that use even when there is no email being received.

This also ticks down even when wifi is connected in my house...

I guess it has to login to your e-mail.

GPS will do it too if you are using AGPS mode.

But does it even use the data network to do that if I am connected to wifi?

Wifi is the preferred connection method, so if you are on wifi your data should not be going down at all. Unless the phone is in standby/sleep mode (ie screen off) and then it does a poll for mail or push is active. It will remain on wifi is connected via USB to a charging source. Push happens every 5 minutes. Disable push and see what happens.

I still haven't been able to solve the disappearing airtime problem with the iphone, so basically have stopped using it as a phone!
apple and I are not getting along lately!

Why don't you try re-installing the firmware? It must be one of the applications you have installed..

Try go to settings, notifications, and try turning any notifications for all apps OFF.
