The airline told FOX Business on Tuesday that the cowling — part of the metal paneling that covers the aircraft's engine — on Alaska Airlines Flight 558 detached from the aircraft when it landed at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The flight landed safely with no one injured.

There were a total of 176 passengers and six crew members on the flight and customers were rebooked on another flight to their destination.

"The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900ER, is now temporarily out of service while our safety team investigates," Alaska Airlines said.

The plane's pilots have more than 32 years of combined flying experience.

Not sure why people are always so paranoid and running to the media about such an incident. This is pretty much normal and happens almost all the time.

Lol, people really love flying and risking their lives. Get a bloody 320d and drive to your destination, If its not pilots falling asleep it is panels falling off planes. No thanks.

Then the Association of Nyope Boys would have been all over for the scrap....
Most likely, yes...but their posh counterparts in here would be all over the story like...erm...forgot what I going to compare them to but you get the picture.

maybe or maybe since airplane accidents are so rare
very unlikely anybody will die from the exact same fault.

look at the 737 MAX mess, 2 crashes and the worldwide fleet got grounded.
To quote: "so there is some comfort in the fact its probable the people that died wont die again." *sic

That's not what you said.

A failed attempt at ridicule and a failed joke. Just quit before Ohyeah84 eats you alive.

A cowling detaching is most certainly not normal, and warrants a formal investigation by the relevant aviation authorities at the very least.
He might have been sarcastic. Then again, he does love adding his unwanted and useless input into topics he knows nothing about, so who knows.

And both cases landed safely. I'm sure I don't have to point it out, but flying (airlines) is much safer than driving.

For me it's the other way around again. I hate driving long distances on SA roads. Don't feel safe with all the idiot impatient chancers around.

I already started...it's going to end up branching into an Idiotphone discussion (because he can't use one apparently and MDM and all) and then he'll need to head off and do homework.
