I went down this road. CoolIdeas - yup on DFA want 30% of the population in your area before they invest. DFA will install a business line at business prices I almost talked myself into paying R5k for a 1:1 10mb line. Internet is just that **** in Alberton. There is fiber everywhere its just all business or commercial lines.

By the way, have anyone seen any works done for past two weeks in new marked areas?

Lot's of civil work but all munic work none fiber. OpenServ's latest (it changes every month) - They have changed the deployment date because of the demand from Q1 Fy18 (they run calendar) to Q4 FY17 - I doubt they have. Last time I spoke to the planner they had passed the project planning to Hawawawawawawawawi which are as useful as an ice block in Antarctica.

The area has been getting A LOT of love lately though from many sectors, Munic, Private (shopping), Wireless companies so its definitely booming.

Sound like we can go back to sleep...

Umm yeah their 10meg at 1:10 ratio is R1000 doesn't talk about cap.

Wireless puts me off latency is a nightmare

Besides latency (not always a case), there are P2P issues (try to torrent or game), port forwarding issues (no game hosting), private IP addresses (no private VPN for LANning), custom throttling (Bitco :erm:), expensive installation (any ISP).

Spotted an Openserve team yesterday on Atmore near Tudor. They seemed to be inspecting routes and access points.

Stopped even hoping actually.

My order for vdsl is scheduled for installation on Friday and all I'm expecting is a call that it can't be done.

Well traditionally wireless by nature you going to have higher latency than wired period no matter what you do. There are just to many factors in play.

Gaming esp first person shooters CoD, battlefield etc rely on 80% low latency 20% speed 5% download 15% upload. Battlefield or rather EA announced though they installing local ZA servers Jan so that's a win.

Fiber - will it ever reach Alberton

Yeah lot's and lot's of planning going on..... We have had them even pitch up to do site inspections and drawings and plans and and and and only to be told that we super important and now in hawawawawawawawawawawawai's hands and their deployment schedule.

Not trying to be the damper just keeping it real.

Remember OpenServ still.maintain some of Telkoms copper infrastructure too.....

No don't stop the hope as I keep saying is, they rolling out but realistically with all the info I have we will START to see it main stream end of next year (this time next year) here.

You lucky you can get VDSL! Wish I was in your shoes- where you located?

Alberante, vdsl is available now after the msan was installed on leipoldt. Bizarre thing is I can't upgrade my existing adsl but can order a new vdsl.

Thus being doubtful if they will actually install.

Would save me R1k+ per month as I'd cancel the wireless link.

Hmmm interesting wondering which exchange that is? Does it run off the main Alberton Exchange (by std bank in the CBD)?

What wireless provider you using and what speeds you getting?

Michelle 2 I think, not sure where it runs off.

I'm using easyweb at this point for the wireless. Only guys who could actually get a LOS link going, running via the Mayberry Park tower. Speeds are good, real world example such as Steam download ranges between 600kb/s to 1mb/s. No issues at all in streaming, even when running 2-3 streams at a time, no buffering and easily runs at 720-1080p.

If I translate that correctly that's a 10mbps line if you getting up.to 1mb/s down.

Need to find out if they have done anything to the main exchange in Allllll-bert- tern CBD it is suppose to be the main exchange but has been getting the least love.

On you cancel and reorder - it is basically like that in their system as they moving you of on part of the exchange to the other and in their system the process its a different service .....

Indeed, should have just that, it's 10 down 1 up and latency is actually brilliant. Just expensive.

meh, did not consider that they may have been looking at old copper. Still holding thumbs for some traction in the next 12 months.
