hmmm, they got enough space on that piece of land to expand that exchange and they've definitely pulled enough Fibre in there the last 2/3 years to improve the exchange.

And if I read correctly, if the Eco estate is going Vodacom Fibre, which will most probably also run via this exchange (as this is a MTN/Vodacom location also) then they seriously need to do something.

G

It's also overloaded/oversubscribed. :(

Pretty much everyone Meyersdal side of Swartkoppies, and this side of R59 is on the Meyersdal exchange.

Does anyone know, the people on the Virgin Active side of Michelle Ave, this side of R59, do they also go to this exchange, would make sense that they actually run down to the randhart exchange but then making sense and doing it that way ha not been a good, reason to do it that way. -- area with ALLOT of development.

And then we have the Eco and Nature Estate with huge development/additional homes going into this exchange so it is just getting worse.

Virgin and DeMarionette could still run down to Randhart possibly.

There was a new exchange installed going down to the entrance of the Eco, I used to stay in one of the complexes there and it took 2 years to get ADSL pending that exchange getting installed. Don't know if its just possibly a relay to Hennie Alberts though, this was about 5-6 years ago as well though.

I stay up there near the Eco estate - and as far as I know I connect to the exchange on Hennie Alberts.

Could just have been a relay then, I was down Robin Close but it took forever to get anything installed. Never acutally checked which exchange it was.

Took me forever but that was due to ****ty infrastructure in the complex - Telkom were actually pretty quick.

Meyersdal MSLAM 5
:)
so what does that mean for my future,

I know the exchange, Meyersdal exchange on Hennie Alberts between Alice street and Hart Laan is 20Mbps capable on ADSL and VDSL.

G

Capable and what they allow is two different things,

I am on IMAX1 also very capable but only sync at 6mbps.

At least I can say.

I'm in the block between Alice street and Swartkoppies, between Hennie Alberts an R59, we use to run down our side of Hennie alberts to swartkoppies turn left to down to vermooten and left again, round to the Meyersdal exchange, Meaning I qualified for a 10Mbps line but at max sync'ed at 6Mb's, when weather good and man holes dry...

They've now cut some of us over to the new line the other side of Hennie Alberts that run straight up to the exchange, happily stable sync at 10Mbps now, and upgrading to 20Mbps as soon as Telkom release my line to MWEB.

G

Well thats at least some news on your side and excellent news. Getting stable connection speeds is key. Here at New Market Park on Lincoln road (Not to sure how far that is from where you at) we go to the Alberton Exchange the one behind Std Bank in Town.

The New Market Park Mall and Macro are on Fibre but the Lemon tree is still on 10mbps

How they run the cables at times or above my understanding, and at times just leave it at that... :)

Their decision criteria like most other large corp's is around the $$

They could run the fibre right past your house and still not offer it to you, sighting that its for a specific customer or for "future planning".

Of all the companies I have contacted:

VUMA
Telkom
DFA

All have indicated the "General" East rand and "South" is not really on the map for the next 12 months they have enough demand in the North to keep them busy.

I can echo this, DFA runs on my pavement but nobody has even a mild interest in serving me in any way. Basically they are not interested. I do not see Telkom expanding beyond their current coverage of the Nature Estate and Vuma/Fiberhoods/Whatever are pretty much not interested either. Best you can do is R6500 per month for 10Mbit Business Fibre which is just out of the park. I can stomach R3k for 100/100 and 1TB cap but more than that for slower speeds would be a bit much.

At the moment Fiber would be nice, but it's more about the speed, I can get 20Mbps in the next couple of days via ADSL, which also implies I don't need to change my router.

Going VDSL or Fiber would imply major infrastructure changes/cost.
lets see.

It seems, moving to another house (or country) is more viable short-medium term option, than waiting for fibre in the general south.

Sad but possibly true. At a guess Telkom will eventually be the company to cover us but not until they are done rolling out to areas that already have access :S

I would like to think that logically they would want to expand the coverage in the area since they already have one estate which means the infrastructure is in place.

Hi all,

I'm also staying close to the Alice Street exchange, currently on a 40Mbps VDSL2 service which is performing very well. That being said, I would also rather prefer a Fibre connection around 100Mbps which decent upload speeds.

There is currently some trenching happening along Hennie Alberts, any idea what this is about?

Hi Aquadat0r

That trenching cnr Hennie Alberts/Jackson street, going down to Jackson dam is to fix the waterpipe that burst there last weekend, some very very OLD pipes that they are replacing.

40Mbps/VDSL, hmm, you sure, was told the exchange is only approved for 20Mbps at the moment.

Please prices, curious to know.
Interesting also as Telkom's site says ftth is not planned atm for Meyersdal.
VC Must be bypassing Telkom completely and patching into the VC network directly and plumbing out somewhere on their network
