Will definitely post a review! ;)

I hope not luxe - paying big bucks for this baby. Hopefully two/three years before it starts! AFTER the honeymoon period!

I ordered mine this week. I am getting it next week! I can't wait! I am also going for the 1.4 Distinctive - but with Leather, Cruise Control, Aluminum Kick plates and the Tom Tom nav... :)

Roll on Monday! :)

Okay guys, I got my Giulietta on Tuesday afternoon - here is the verdict!

Exterior
I was concerned that the mag/colour combo might be a bad combination, but I am glad to say that my fears were unfounded! The colour is absolutely stunning, especially in sunlight! The wheels fit the arches perfectly and I will NOT be changing them to anything bigger in a hurry. The DRL LED's make the car look like it is ready for take off and makes you visible even in fog (which we had plenty of on the East Rand the past couple of days).

Interior
The seats are exceptionally comfortable (I got the leather with canneloni rolls and red stitching). It is a soft-touch perforated leather which feels brilliant to the touch. There is plenty of space behind me for an average sized adult (I am 6'7" or 1.98m tall) which makes this an ideal small family sized car. The dials are easy to read and has a very clear display especially at night when the whole dashboard lights up in white and red lighting. The USB is well hidden in the Glove box, which is ideal if you are using a memory stick to cart your music around as it isn't in plain sight so chances of it going missing is little. The controls for the USB and telephone is easy to access (on the steering) and is quite user friendly as well. The Blue & Me function is brilliant and it is very easy to pair your phone and download your address book (if you have a compatible phone). The Bose speakers perform with aplomb playing even the dullest Celine Dion track (yes my girlfriend is a freak) with absolute clarity and enough bass to even satisfy a teenager.

Performance
This little engine is a masterpiece! I drove the Fiat Bravo before the Alfa (same engine without the Multi-Air technology) and I must say this derivative is simply streaks ahead of the power plant found in the Fiat. Even at low revs the Alfa simply spools up and finds it's torque band very quickly eliminating the need to gear down for overtaking maneuvers. The gear changes are crisp without the need to force or snap change into gear. I must admit I have not REALLY opened up the car yet and have on one or two occasions just hinted at the red line and you can just tell that this car is begging to be driven. As mentioned I have not driven it hard yet, but the road holding seems to be awesome as there is constant feedback from the steering making you aware of what exactly the front wheels are doing.

In all this is a "grown up's" car and NOT your typical boy racer. I have not felt the need to hammer the car just to see what it can do. When you drive it sensibly it is comfortable and very smooth. When you push the pedal down a little harder you can instantly tell that there is a perfectly balanced engine driving this car.

For those who only have negative things to say about Alfa and their (at times) poor heritage, let me say this:

Before you judge and go around commenting on the poor reliability of this marquee, do yourself a favour and go test drive a Giulietta. You will be pleasantly surprised - I was.

I don't see how a test drive will surprise me in terms of reliability? were you expecting it to break down? :D

It looks like a magnificent car but I will not touch one for now, if they are all still working well after 5 years then you will see me in an Alfa to ;)

I suppose I was expecting it to break down with everyone telling me how terrible Alfa's are... But what I meant by saying that you should go for a TD is the fact that it is not the same Alfa's as 10 years ago...

That is true, you can't compare cars of today to those of yesteryear. With today's high standards unreliable car manufacturers would be bankrupt.

I don't doubt that Alfas are now as reliable as any but they are not exactly cheap to maintain either which put me off.

Don't they have a 5 year service plan?

service plan yes, maintenance plan no. It would also be foolish not to consider maintenance and service costs past the service plan years and lets face it, Alfa do not have a great record in this regard.

I don't quite follow. With a 5 year warranty and a 5 year services plan, how can you get burned?

It has a 5 year 90000km service plan and a 6 year 150000 warranty. As long as you keep your end with regards to servicing you should be okay. I am not planning on keeping the car past the 100000km mark anyways - so I should be okay. Hopefully they have a new generation Giulietta I can step into then! :)

I just came back from the dealership where I bought my car (there was a problem with my registration) and I saw a white Giulietta QV with almost every extra that you can get being prepared for delivery. This guy had a LOT of patience because he waited 6 months for this... He ordered it EXACTLY as he wanted it and had the guts to go with red leather! It is a white one with charcoal 18" mags (the turbine sport variety). The car looks SWEET! If you maybe read this; well played sir!
