A "power pedal"? Doesn't it normally come with an accelerator?

lol, i am struggling to remember the exact term he used. It was a while ago, but it sounded like a plugin chip.
I drove the mito distinct with it in, didnt really impress me much

I would get the distinct or nothing. And that is why i have nothing :)
Its just a bit too expensive at the moment, I am worried about interest rates and all that (more for my house than car).

But, if you are happy with the base model then go for it, just dont test drive the disrinct, otherwise you will want it.

lol the distinct is a little over pricey if you ask me, now we talking the R300's. Scary.

I don't know, the dealer told me that there really isn't that much difference between the 2. Power wise he said wasn't that big even though the KW sound like a lot.

Depends on the parts, but not nearly as bad as it used to be.
Besides, its an alfa, how likely is it that you will need parts ;)

lol hope you are right :D

I have never really had a good outlook on Alfa, I guess they are trying to change the way people see the brand.

The 5 yeah 150 000 / 6 year service plan is really appealing to me.

They changed my outlook on Alfa's the day they had the racing at Zwartkops where you could put the QV and GT to the limit. But yeah, seems they are doing a big marketing exercise to try change their perception...

Thats all very well, but I would like to know that if it breaks they fix it in under 6 months :D

Have heard a few horror stories of people waiting months and months for parts.

Ok, so as an Alfa owner and a damn proud one right now I have to be honest...My little Giulietta is in the shop to replace the gearbox and she hasnt even reached 1000km yet. NOW! Before everyone has their say, there was nothing wrong with the functioning of the car, the gearbox was a little clunky and made a kro kro kro sound at 3000revs. Alfa and Arnold Chatz, no questions asked as it is a problem with some Giuliettas have ordered a brand new gearbox and will be fitting it in. In the meantime, they have given me a little Mito to run around with and its good fun!

Ill tell you what, I love my Giulietta. Despire the gearbox issue the car is fantastic and the fact that they will fix it on the double with minimum hassle just proves it that Arnold Chatz wont stuff around and they are supporting the car.

If anyone is scared of buying one because of this...dont be! Even though its a gear box...its minor because if yours does ship with a faulty gearbox they will replace it.

I dont want this to impact what is a fantastic car but I have to be honest with my fellow mybb members.

Those with gearbox issues are a minority and Im always lucky that way. The majority of owners have had an absolutely flawless experience.

A thread on the gearbox issue
http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-giulietta/245363-giulietta-gearbox-woes.html

A thread I started about my Giulietta
http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/south-africa/269605-my-giulietta-arriving-end-of-march.html

The good and bad (mostly good stuff about the G)
http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-giulietta/

Now before you all say "but look at all the issues", try google your favourite car and add some words like broken or issues. If you google Giulietta and add those same keywords the complaints are limited to the Alfa Owners forum (for the most part). As an example, my brother had a bunch of issues with his brand new A3 and anyone can tell you that they know someone who bought a dud Merc or BMW.

Also, its widely known that its easier to complain than to compliment. Look at hellopeter. If someone has a good steak they wont bother writing it but if someone has a horrible steak they will b&itch and moan all day.

Anyways, just want to make sure that the Giulietta is given a fair chance. It has received rave reviews from owners and critics alike and I urge anyone looking for a car to test drive it. Its an exciting place to be and the 1.4T Multiair is a real gem. I have awesome torque and power on hand and the build quality is great. Just one thing, I recommend the Cannelloni leather! Its beautiful.

As the advert states..."without heart we would be mere machines". The Giulietta has loads of heart!

Cant wait to have her back clunk free!!!

Sorry to hear that Random, but seriously? Not even a 1000KM and you need a new gear box?

Its a great car, and you will see I drove it this morning, but dam I am sure as hell not forking out R250 gorillas to have a bum gearbox. Or any other issues for that matter.

I can't say I have ever heard amazing things about Alfa, some good, but a lot of bad things. Maybe they are just crud cars :(

Its sad though, because that car really blew me away this morning.

I can appreciate that this car / brand has heart. Its a real mans car and drives like one. But in all honestly I don't think I even want to go down this road if there is these kinds of reports coming out.

Random thanks for your honesty though dude! Appreciate it! Hope your baby gets sorted asap! :)

Which one did you order again Izzy?

The QV, special spec, so waiting for it to come from Italy :/ I think that the gearbox fault is hopefully its just on the vehicles already shipped to date. Those that they are still building, I expect to come "ready fixed"...

Just remember though, all cars have certain defects. The great thing is that Alfa will, with no questions asked or fiddling just replace the gearbox. I bet if you went to VW they would have 6 billion excuses why the gearbox is fine and its supposed to clunk.

To be honest, I think that people will be robbing themselves if they dont seriously consider a Giulietta. Remember, I am in the minority with regards to this gearbox issue and I wouldnt be singing its praises if I didnt think it was brilliant.

Oh, and I dont need a new gearbox per se since its a defect from factory, not a part failure.

Remember, Alfa were known for great engines but the electrical work was shoddy. The electrical part is apparently sorted ever since they poached BMW's guy. The engine is strong as ever. The gearbox is a teething issue that will be sorted on later models as Alfa are well aware of this. I have 100% faith so far and I have been treated brilliantly.

Also, if need be, sign up for the alfa owners forum and post your questions there. Some members are refreshingly objective.

Fair enough, and VW probably would just fob you off. But its hard to make a decision to spend R250K on a car when you read and hear that there is a chance you could get a faulty gearbox.

I can't really remember the last car that was released that had such a serious issue that would require a gearbox change.

It seems that there a number of people on that forum that are having the same issue.

FACT: It is a nice looking car.

FACT: Alfa's reputation is completely and utterly crap.

No amount of beauty will get my ass in an Alfa. Not even 1000km, and a new gearbox..that is just wow.

Very nice!

I have to say reading those threads Random linked are not making me want one all that much anymore :(

I guess some of it is depro but remember what I said. People use forums to complain and hardly to compliment. Go to the Audi and VW forums and you will see the same. Those thousands that are driving with a smile on their faces are not on the forums as opposed to the handful of people on the forum who are moaning...

At the end of the day it is your money and of you are not keen to spend it on an Alfa then thats your decision but I would definitely say, dont read too much into it and look for the positive stuff as well.

I can honestly say, everything about my car is near perfect...except for the gearbox which is being replaced. If they had made excuses I would have invoked the CPA but there is no need. Anyways, for 5 years you are covered. Theres no risk to you ;) Im very very happy with my purchase and if you said go back and decide again, it would be the Alfa every time.

Gents, really...If anyone needs some reassurance...I can take you for a spin or we can chat. The car is fantastic!

It might be funny to comment now that because my current car is giving me so much hassles (engine mounting is currently being replaced), I wanted to buy a new car so that I could pay the premium for "piece of mind". That's why I decided then on a Honda CR-Z :) before the Alfa stole my heart (and my wallet). Damn you Alfa you better give me piece of mind! Gives it to me!
