I guess some of it is depro but remember what I said. People use forums to complain and hardly to compliment. Go to the Audi and VW forums and you will see the same. Those thousands that are driving with a smile on their faces are not on the forums as opposed to the handful of people on the forum who are moaning...

At the end of the day it is your money and of you are not keen to spend it on an Alfa then thats your decision but I would definitely say, dont read too much into it and look for the positive stuff as well.

I can honestly say, everything about my car is near perfect...except for the gearbox which is being replaced. If they had made excuses I would have invoked the CPA but there is no need. Anyways, for 5 years you are covered. Theres no risk to you ;) Im very very happy with my purchase and if you said go back and decide again, it would be the Alfa every time.

Gents, really...If anyone needs some reassurance...I can take you for a spin or we can chat. The car is fantastic!

Agreed, forums are generally filled with complaints, but in this case there is a clear fault with this model and many people are experiencing the same issue, over and over which is a bit of a worry.

But that being said I still haven't written it off as an option. I still love this car, really really impressed me. If I do go for it I just have to pray that I don't get a lemon.

I have to say the more I read that first thread the more I think to myself I would have to be an absolute idiot to go and buy one.

Its not 1 or 2 people, there are stacks of the exact same issue.

This is really sad. :(

If you buy a new one - you could check/require that the new version gearbox is fitted? Is that the solution?

There is either a fix or a new gearbox which has addressed the problem.

Tell them to prove it? Or swear on their mother!

Grimspoon, thats the thing. The Giulietta has a gearbox issue and it has been established. Chatz and Alfa are well aware of this and if you buy one that has a faulty gearbox they will replace it. Simple as that.

I think its unfair to say that its a bad choice because of it. As for any other issues, they are isolated. The one idiot broke his gear knob, another guy had window failure. One type of paint only available in UK is prone to chipping. The only serious issue is the gearbox.

As an example have a quick browse over these other forums
http://www.vwforum.com/forums/
http://www.audiforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12&order=desc&page=2

You will see that everyone complains but no one ever says "What a beautiful car"..."im so happy" etc as they do on the Alfa forum .

Use this to search for recalls. Have a look at the A3 or VW as opposed to Alfa.
http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp

Alfa have had no recalls and the Giulietta is the "new breed" of Alfa. Obviously it started shaky but look, Alfa are doing something about it.

Anyways, thats enough of me being a fanboy. The truth is you should research and talk to the dealer. Chatz have been good to me and havent told me stories. Thats good enough for me. VW Macarthy tried to deliver to my brother his GTI with a huge gash in the underside of the bumper. Luckily my brother inspected. Oh, and he has a hectic rattle in his door after 3 months. If it were an Alfa everyone would have something to say and it would be a massive "told you so" and "Alfa is sh&t".

As for a new gearbox version, no, I havent heard that anything has been released but the majority of people have had no issues. I met a guy from the Alfa forum and his is as smooth as any German car.

I think thats it Random, if it gives me kak I will just take it back and have it replaced. Easy.

I wan't one NOW! :D

Edit: O and I felt like such a chop at the dealer today, I didn't realise it was a 4 door :D

so the dude opens the back door to grab his jacket and I was like WTF? back doors??? AWeSOME!

Now even the kids can go in the back.

lol...You go boy! Tell Chatz im defending their brand and car. I want free scuff plates! haha.

As for the rear doors, you should have seen the petrol attendant. He was flabbergasted when I opened the door. He called all his mates and quizzed them if they theought it was a 4 door. He proceeded to open the door and they all had a good laugh :)

Also, its great getting the attention. If you drop 300k on a car...you want people to notice and the G gets a lot of attention. Ive had people give me thumbs up at robots, questions at pertrol stations from motorists, a lot of pointing/staring and endless compliments from my mates and family.

But if you do order one...make sure you get the Cannelloni leather seats, They are expensive but I will admit, it makes a world of difference. The standard cloth is ultra kak! (see I can be objective ;) )

Good on Alfa for the truth and honesty in this respect. How many BMW 320D's did it take for BMW to rectify their blown turbo problems in the Highveld, and don't get me started on VW Polo (previous shape) gearboxes.

Well, I wouldn't say its a public statement but a fuss has been kicked up and someone is listening. Thats why most dealers wont question it. Some guy from Italy was there today and Randy, the head tech guy said he was glad the Italian was there... not sure what that means but I take it as good.

Cant wait to get my Giulietta back! Thursday is coming closer...every second!

Ill post here with regards to my new gear box ;) As always, pure honesty!

Would love to get the leather, but I would really be pushing the budget. Might need to just deal with the cloth, I didn't think it was that bad to be honest.

How much is the leather do you know?

Which dealer did you buy from Random?

Leather is R12k. If you want to know any other optional extra price, let me know (I have the dealer price list).

Trust me the leather will be worth it - it is one mandatory optional extra.

Maybe push for a discount? If the dealer knows that 'leather' is stopping a potential sale, I am sure they would throw it in (hell I got a R10k discount).

I think both Random and I bought ours from Arnold Chatz. I dealt with Michael Pracher, very decent guy. You can tell Random and I referred you if you want :)

Interesting. The guy I dealt with, think it was conrad, after offering me R20 000 less on my car, said ya they could maybe work something out, but seriously, I got offered R20K more for my car at the Honda down the road, WTF would I settle for R20K less? :wtf:

Thats the only real thing that seriously put me off.

Do you really need to push these dealers and get pushy to get a discount?

R20 000 less is a huge difference. Did you tell him of the competing offer? I waited until I was sent the OTP before saying 'the amount looks a bit high, omg the costs just escalate...I need you to come to the party" and was offered a discount to "seal the deal". That way they have done the paper work to put together the offer and know that you are serious :)

Maybe they can build in the R20 000 with extras?

If you dont have any luck, maybe try sell your car privately?

Yeah massive difference, I even looked at him, with probably a wtf look and said, what? You joking? :p

I told him Honda had, 3 days earlier offered me R20K more and he was like, o ok well thats a good price they offering you, but your car is high mileage.

Maybe they could, but then I will end up waiting a few months for the car, they had a few coming in soon that appealed to me.

Otherwise yeah I will have to sell it privately or hunt for dealer willing to offer me a decent price, but sure as hell not letting Alfa knock me for R20k and still charge me full price on the new car. **** that.
