Hi all,

As you can see I'm a serious ALFA fan...I hate them and love them all the same...wanted to get a quick feedback session from the community, you can be harsh, you can be friendly, does not matter, just give me some feedback please.

If you were to choose, would you take the MiTo 1.4 Turbo 114kw or the Mini Cooper S 128kw?

Alfa is cheaper and has greater maintenance plan...obviously I'll be biased towards the Alfa, I've seen a Cooper S in action and I have huge respect for the car, I've seen it pull away rough as well so I know how it pull!

Point is, I've test driven the MiTo and I'm seriously impressed! In Dynamic mode the boost is upped and you can feel the car stiffen up!!!:D

Anyway, current trends show BMW owners are choosing the MiTo as its different because lets face it...there are just too many 3 Series BMW's on the road...

What would you choose?
Cheers,

AA - AlfaHolics Anonymous!!!

Cooper S, hands down.

The MiTo is a stunning little car and if we could all be magically transported to Europe I would take it over a MINI any day. But, we're in South Africa and you'd be opening yourself to a world of hurt buying an Alfa in sunny SA.

The maintenance plan counts for naught, as the dealer network is widely regarded as being the worst on local soil. When parts take months to arrive and the support network is incompetent no piece of paper is going to help you. Then there's the not insignificant issue of resale value. Yes, you don't buy a new car to sell it again, but a couple of years down the line you will want to, and the Alfa won't be worth jack...

LOL, seriously?

Alfa Romeo

Like they said on Top Gear if it's in 100% working condition you know it's not a Alfa.

LOL - all your points are valid ONLY to the uninformed driver. I know its popular opinion what you mention and its TOTALLY true! BUT, I've got 3 Alfa's, when they give me trouble, LIKE ALL CARS, I get my parts in days dude! Stay away from dealers! I see they've extended the warantee offer, this won't help an already 10 year damaged reputation!

Like old Clarkson said, I always say this to defend my love for the cars, you are NOT a true petrol head if you have not owned an ALFA ROMEO yet!!! Take it from the man...

LOL, well you seem to have made up your mind already, you've had 3 Alfa's and you can get your parts quickly and repair it yourself, then it should be a easy choice.

Still, all things equal every car has trouble at some point, that is true, but some more than others if you catch my drift, on a Mini it might be the electric mirrors and on the Alfa it may be the Turbo.

@ Gnome...no - turbo won't be the problem, lol we can't actually say that, this is Alfa's first stab at a FIAT engine in turbo platform. The Fiat cars like Bravo sport and ABARTH 500 don't have turbo issues...so we'll need to hear from early adopters what issues they've encountered with the MiTo!

LOL - do yourself a favour if you're interested...Go on VW forum, AUDI forum and BMW forum, then you'll read about the "common errors" these cars have but its some kind of secret fact that ALL drivers of these cars MUST not dare make public the issues they have with their cars!

I know friends who dreaded buying a Tdi, or G4 GTI out of waranty is basically an Alfa from the Factory LOL - stabing my own heart!

JK8 - dude, ALFA delivered disasterous news last week had me mouping for hours on end...

MiTo GTA production is put on hold citing economic conditions...some say its just marketing ploy - hope their right...

Anyway, MiTo GTA specs were to be 1.75l Turbo producing 170 odd kw!!!

I find someone called "alfaholic" asking whether or not to buy a mini cooper quite pointless actually.

Despite their bad reputation, I long for the day when I can afford an Alfa V6, preferably the Brera. It's like a 'poor' man's Ferrari and looks better too.

That's 156 V6 isn't much quicker than the RunX RSI 1.8 actually ...

Whats the Mito GTA specs?

Audi A1's most powerful version according to wikipedia is:

1.4 L 170 bhp (126.8 kW) I4 Turbo

Or is it being released in another version?

Anyway, MiTo GTA specs were to be 1.75l Turbo producing 170 odd kw!!!

I'm a bit confused, isn't the MiTo GTA a concept car?

Either way seems the Alfa Romeo MiTo is FF configuration, so it's kinda the same problem the Opel Astra OPC had, makes the same power and it's FF configuration (front wheel, front engine) but according to Top Gear the wheels can't handle that much power, remains to be seen how the Alfa Romeo will cope unless the configuration is changed.

Yes but its an Audi they always faster, regardless of power... the 184kw 147GTA is slooooow compared to the R32 or A3 3.2l or GTi or S3 or maybe the Polo Gti!:p

LOL, well that remains to be seen, the Mini makes 2kW more and it's Tare Weight is 1125kg that's pretty light for a modern hot hatch (at this time the only modern hot hatch with a lower weight I can think of is the Fait 500 @ 940kg)

I can't seem to find how much the Audi A1 is going to weigh

sigh...

ok bring a standard 1.8RSi.. ill bring a standard Alfa 156 V6... ill take you a 100K bet that the RSi will lose, 0-100, quarter mile whatever..
Always one of you !

anyway.. take the mito, its good looking and a lot better then the mini. The mini might take it in performance but not much else. And also do you really want to have the car that is so common ?
